"There are five Presidents with guts. And they realize what this is all about - restoring the Soviet Empire.

They better hurry up, though, while there is still a Georgia to fly to."

I wonder how crazy Russia is. They could view this as an opportunity to eliminate five thorns in their side. An accidental military incident with uncertain circumstances - blame the Georgians for indiscriminate firing, etc.

I just hope my friend TTK got out of Russia before this hit the fan, he lives here in Tarpon Springs and went home to Estonia last week to visit family and was going to St Petersburg, RU on business and pleasure.

We were hoping Bush or Cheney would make the same trip.

If we hope to retain any influence at all with these countries, someone pretty high up had better.

These Presidents certainly must understand that if Russia is allowed to “intervene on behalf of ‘oppressed’ ethnic Russsians” in Georgia, then it could be only a matter of time before Russia “intervenes on behalf of ‘oppressed’ Russians” in Lithuania or The Ukraine.

Perhaps these presidents actually paid attention during their 20th century history classes.

These guys have the cahones to do what has to be done!

Kristinn, here is you plan but it is the Poles and the Baltics who are making it happen.

They have"been there and done that" and know exactly what is at stake like no others.

It is a shame that they have to take the lead...but maybe if they will, Bush will jump on board and punctuate what they are doing.

Bravo for these leaders and God bless them for their bravery and valor at this time of world history. They are acting like true leaders, putting their very lives and freedom at risk to do the right thing and to create a chance to stop this agression.

I fear Russia will not respect them in the least unless someone like Bush joins in. But they are absolutely doing the right thing.

Yeah, I don’t know where this “ethnic Russian” BS came from. The past few days even Russian news was calling them “Russian passport holders”.

I would think their history classess were a little more in depth than what one might experience here in the states.

Bush or at least Cheney should be on a plane to Georgia TODAY also. We must stand by them. Next will be the Ukraine, Moldova, The Czech Republic, et al. They must be stopped.

Everyone should email Cheney at vice_president@whitehouse.gov and Bush at commments@whitehouse.gov.

Tell them to man up!

All we need to do is put the Minutemen back on target against Russia and kick the Russian observers out of the Pentagon. That should make Putin and his mini-me not sleep so tight tonight.

Next we need to declare a no-fly zone over Georgia and enforce it with our air craft based in Turkey and Iraq.

Finally, we should be dropping in airborne troops into Tbilisi to prevent the Russians from advancing on it. With the ready brigade of either the 82nd, 101st, or 173rd at the Tbilisi airport acting as a “trip wire” the Russian will not dare to enter the capital or to advance any further into Georgia. When they thought Eisenhower was going to send armored divisions from Germany across Austria (which was neutralized) and into Hungary during the 1956 uprising, Khrushchev and Malinkov hesitated for two week before putting down the rebellion. It was only until John Foster Dulles threw the Hungarians to the wolves by announcing that the US would not intervene that the Russians moved. Once those jokers start looking back down the barrels of American guns they'll stop moving forward and begin negotiations.

God bless Poland, Ukraine, and the Baltics for having the strength and will...and the leadership to do what has to be done!

BRAVO, and God blessing to them and on them and their people!

There are true leaders...going themselves, risking their lives and liberty, and making the statement that MUST be made.

I pray Bush will join them...that would punctuate this thing and make it work.

Otherwise, I do not believe Putin will have any respect for these men and may well bring about a tragic "accident".

I still probably wouldn’t have backed this, with Bush alone. With the Presidents of the region taking this action, I firmly support Bush joining them. It would be nice if he were making his broadcast at 5:15 e.d.t., from Georgia. It’s my understanding he’s over the Pacific now. I guess we could have been misled about that.

Perhaps Bush orchestrated this. If so, I salute him for it.

We’ll see.
