A report released today says Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price may have violated state laws in a number of ways.
First, by using public money and assets for personal purposes.
The Legislative Auditor's report says Price allegedly used his city issued credit card for more than $50,000 in personal purchases.
The report says:
"From September 2003 through March 2008, Mayor Price made 620 credit card transactions totaling $56,733... Of the amounts charged, we noted 65 personal charges by Mayor Price totaling $8,845; 356 charges for meals totaling $36,103 that lacked proper documentation; and 15 charges relating to parties and celebratory functions totaling $6,143. By using a City issued credit card for personal use, Mayor Price may have violated state law."
The Legislative auditor also alleges that Price and other city workers used public vehicles and Fuelman gasoline credit cards for personal use.
The report says:
"Mayor Price routinely use City vehicles and Fuelman cards for personal purposes such as out-of-state vacations... using public vehicles and Fuelman cards for personal use... may have violated state law."
The report goes on to say Price appears to have illegally received gifts, including golf trips and hunting trips from people seeking to do business with the city.
On this matter the Legislative Auditor says:
"Louisiana Revised Statute (R.S.) 42:1115 provides, in part, that no public servant shall solicit or accept, directly or indirectly, anything of economic value as a gift or gratuity from any person or employee of any person who has or is seeking to obtain contractual or other business or financial relationships with the public servant's agency. During a review of Mayor Price's e-mails, we noted several messages which indicated that people doing business with the City were providing things of value, including golf trips and hunting trips, to Mayor Price."
The report also raises allegations that Price used city employees on public time to work for his campaign fund raisers. It goes on to indicate that Price and the City of Mandeville repeatedly violated public bid laws for contracts.
Lock them all up!
Yet another Corrupt New Orleans Area politician just like C. Ray Nagin and William Jefferson.
::::::
What? How can this be? Officials corrupt? From the upstanding city whose police force ran away during Katrina? You had better check Price’s freezer!!!!
You can’t find a level of government in this country anymore that is not corrupt.
A few months ago this A-Hole driving drunk crashed a toll both on the causeway and demanded that the cops that pulled him over not arrest him because he was the mayor.
The Louisiana solution was to fire the cops involve in the incident.
Hopefully Price will go down but he again is no different than Nagin or William Jefferson.
Crooked politicians in LA. NO WAY!!!!! I’m SHOCKED!!
Aw jeez, you really don’t know anything about Louisiana if you paint this as a New Orleans suburb the same as the city.
Yeah! The free meals were at LeProvence and Trey Yuen, not Commanders and Five Happiness.
Being that a large number of people that live in Mandeville commute over the causeway to work in New Orleans and that Mandeville in within the New Orleans media market, it is obvious that Mandeville is a New Orleans suburb.
And then there is Eddie Price who is as corrupt as C. Ray Nagin and William Jefferson.
Yes, Mandeville is a suburb of New Orleans.
If that is not the case, why did I see all those cars on Friday afternoon on Causeway Blvd. lining up to cross the causeway to go home to the suburb of Mandeville?
No party affiliation mentioned, means he’s a democRAT
He is a Republican.
The point is, Mandeville does *not* have a history of tolerating the sort of corruption found in New Orleans. That's one of the reasons why people choose to live there and deal with a long commute into the city.
I expect the pols in Orleans and even Jefferson to be corrupt but I expect better on the Northshore. However, Price has not only been implicated in these thefts but has also been DWI and crashed a toll gate and had three LEO’s fired for stopping him.
Dude Looks like he wants to sell me life insurance.
I’ve signed for group dinners at Trey Yuen and it’s not cheap.
I think his father is Tulane football legend Eddie Price, who owned a hamburger joint near Freret and Broadway in the 60s. Not sure, but I think he may have been killed in a robbery.
Fine dining on the taxpayers’ tab...PRICELESS!
Dontcha just love and hate New Orleans?
Now that you mention it, I think his dad may have been a coach for Tulane.
Hamburger joint at Freret and Broadway? Mush have been before my time or something I missed as that is just a few blocks from my New Orleans house.
i would have thought people live there because it makes no sense to live below sea level
Perhaps, but living in southern St. Tammany Parish is pretty much the same as living along the Mississippi coast. There's no "bowl" to hold the floodwater, but under the right conditions, anything south of I-10/I-12 is vulnerable.
The Mandeville/Covington area is where many of the folks who don't feel welcome in "Chocolate City" moved over the past three decades. It hs continued to grow because, unlike Orleans Parish, it's not squished betwen the river and the lake.
