My early decision to support Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton was founded upon the notion that in this important election year, Senator Obama was the candidate best suited to pulling the country together. I was sure Clinton, despite her proven political and governing prowess, would only unite the Republicans with her perennial scandals and ruin the Democrats’ chances of taking the White House.
But this morning I awoke in an unsettling panic from a peculiar dream. I was sitting at a conference table with Hillary Clinton (adorned in a navy pant suit) and repeatedly hugging her. Each hug seemed to peel away a layer of guilt and regret. It was the kind of feeling a child would have after not listening to a parent’s advice, only to end up in the kind of mess only a parent can solve. It was an “I told you so” moment as I opened my eyes.
I’m no dream analyst, but my subconscious clearly articulated what Democrats, progressives, liberals, and in particular, Obama supporters, must be coming to terms with as of late. Maybe on the surface, a Clinton candidacy would have brought with it more baggage, but the underlying realities of the current Obama candidacy are bearing new spoiled fruit that might, in the end, give us another four years of a Republican presidency.
Indeed, Barack Obama, with all of his positive posturing and talk of unity and hope, has somehow become the great divider. While Republicans either feel indifferent or tepid support for John McCain, Democrats and Republicans alike seem to have something to say about Obama.
But what would we expect from a candidate refusing to play the “politics as usual” game while running against a man playing straight out of the Karl Rove handbook? The recent bombardment of unscrupulous anti-Obama ads is doing the same thing similar negative ads have done in the past—namely, creating doubt and, more specifically, fostering fear among the sort of swing voters who decide elections.
This year, those swing voters include Clinton Democrats. Just in case you missed the primaries, that’s about half of all Democrats. We knew Clinton was flawed, but at least we also knew exactly how the Republican attacks against her would be packaged and how they would (or wouldn’t) stick.
Oh Please! “straight out of the Karl Rove handbook”? Honey, McCain and the GOP so far has been very gentle with BO. You are rightabout one thing though, BO is not a uniter. After refering to rural voters as bitter and clinging, then telling anyone who laughed at his assertion that inflating your tires would save enough gas to not have to drill as ignorant I’d say that he’s sucessfully ran off the moderates he’d have needed to win.
Only possible if the entire population is gullible -- and that just isn't the case.
Ummmm, If Clinton was the nominee, the situation would be much more polarized.
Some suspect it's as bad as it is now for Obama because of Clinton "friends" in the MSM...

Mr. Obama voted the party line in the Senate 97% of the time.
In the state Senate in Illinois he voted “present” 130 times - usually on difficult issues.

So what you have said is, you thought that a person that has litte background or record in governing anything, was the person you chose to “pull the Country together” (whatever that means)?
Not much of a reason to exercise your franchise for someone.....
So the fact that the guy basically does belive in America to begin with and is only slightly less then a Communist in his political agenda meant nothing to you?

All this “pulling the country together” crap is just that. Obamalamadingdong can only unite the ignorant young, blacks and guilted whites. I don’t think that will be enough to win an election in the fall.
Besides, if I want change, I’ll reach into the ash tray in my car.
It won’t be anything that Republicans or our presumptive candidate John McCain say that will turn the tide against Barack Hussein Obama, it will be his association with people like Tony Rezko, William Ayers, and Aiham Alsammarae that will derail his Presidential aspirations. Combine these crooked associations with his lack of anything resembling experience to do the job and Obama is doomed to failure.
I am waiting for when O “rebounds” in some way.
Someone, somewhere, will compare it to the Resurrection.

This is an example of libs being able to believe multiple contradictory things simultaneously. BO’s mission, in his/her mind, was to “pull the country together” under socialist rule.
Maybe this person’s fantasy is that BO would make socialism, multiculturalism, infanticide, and surrender suddenly acceptable to the rest of the nation and we would all “pull together” for her noble goals.
At least conservatives understand that when we govern, we govern a divided country in which about 30% of the citizens are viciously opposed to everything we stand for and will do ANYTHING to prevent effective conservative governance. W, unfortunately, never understood that he was in a death battle with these folks and tried to treat them like rational humans.
I suspect that the author is really just sorry that BO will not be as effective at fooling the rubes about his radical agenda as the author thought—so back to “miss moderate,” HRC; may she can fool the rubes better than BO.
The “pulling together” crap only works when people share common goals. I don’t want to pull together with the author. I want to prevent him/her from destroying our nation.
