Too late! Been here two years already. And BTW--I'm STILL fighting with the CA DMV to get the $440 in state taxes they STILL owe me for (incorrectly, surprise) garnishing my tax refund.
Seems the DMV doesn't understand that when you register a car AND transfer title 3000 miles away, you really don't need a CA registration anymore and it's not nice to take money that isn't theirs.

We had that problem too. Lots of phone calls and faxes later we finally resolved the "issue". Thankfully, we didn't get to the garnish portion of your story.
