Preface
I remember reading somewhere that societies in decline reach a point where they are so corrupt that attempted remedies only reveal and further aggravate the causes of their demise. Sometimes I'm tempted to believe that the American Republic has passed well beyond this point, that our liberty is gone and cannot be recovered. The essay that follows is evidence that I have not yet succumbed to this temptation.
I have no doubt, however, that we are in the midst of the feverish crisis that marks either the recovery of the Republic, or its dissolution. The great principles of right and justice that gave rise to our constitutional system of democratic self-government are everywhere discarded or under assault. Indeed, things are so far advanced that the issues most involved with the destruction of these principles (such as so called "marriage" for homosexuals) are being debated and decided with no reference at all to their implications for the moral premises of liberty.
We live in revolutionary times, by which I mean times when a form of government will either be restored or overthrown...

And Im astounded at such condescending self righteousness.
Referencing Rahab offers more to my point than yours.
Keep in mind that Alan Keyes is a devout Catholic. Catholics look to Scripture and Tradition. I again offer the two links in my original to those open to reading them.
You will be one of a vanishingly small minority. From mid-January on, Ambassador Keyes campaigned only in Texas, yet he rceived only 0.62% of the vote from Texans. His best showing was in North Carolina with 2.7%, but by that time everyone in the race but McCain and Ron Paul had dropped out. In fact, he finished behind "no preference" and almost 10 points behind a guy (Huckabee) who had been out of the race for two months.
But, let's try a thought experiment. Let's say that many people follow your lead, and Ambassador Keyes gets 15% of the popular vote. If that happened...
Who would take office on January 20, 2009?
Who will be Commander-in-Chief from January 20, 2009 until at least January 20, 2013?
Who will appoint judges to the federal bench and justices to the Supreme Court of the United States for four years?
I look forward to your answer.
“For me, the very first litmus test is character,”
Me too, and if his behavior at the Hanoi Hilton didn’t do it for you, I really don’t know what would.
Bump!
Liberty has a hard time organizing itself. It would be nice if Conservatives improved the timing of their inspiration for once. The platform is fractured and John McCain is not the one who can fix it. The Conservative base is largely responsible for this mess.
God bless John McCain. He needs our support.
So, youre just factually incorrect.
Realistically I am correct.
So...writing in George Washington this November?
You’re fooling yourself. John McCain won’t stop the death of a single child. He’s not pro-life and he’s been blocking pro-life legislation for years. He’s not going to change his stripes now.
And, in fact, with folks like yourself shilling for him and compromising away all principle, you’re going to open the floodgates for the Left. With a misled and compromised conservative movement, there won’t be much of anything left to stand in their way.
No. I’ll be casting my vote for Alan Keyes.
And actually, I was using the Proverbs to point out your unseemly new role as a mocker.
This is another demonstration of one of the things I hate the most about the candidacy of John Judas McCain and his new Whig Party II: the corruption of the morals of conservative folk.
You're creating your own reality, under the tutelage of the liberal media and a completely sold-out and corrupted political establishment.
But that reality, if it comes all the way to fruition, is one in which the Left is utterly in control of all three branches of our national government AND both formerly "major" parties.
No checks, no balances. Nothing standing in the way of the Left doing whatever they please.
Expecting John McCain or his minions to protect our most closely-held principles is like expecting Bill Clinton to guard your daughter's chastity.
Youre fooling yourself. John McCain wont stop the death of a single child.
The point is John McCain definitely will not CAUSE as many children to die as Obama will. With Supreme Court appointments McCain may well stop the death of many children. And it goes way beyond abortion; on essentially every single thing Obama is manifestly worse than McCain.
youre going to open the floodgates for the Left.
I think Obama FAR more than McCain will open the floodgates for the Left.
Obviously we do not agree.
This election is extraordinary in that the candidates emerging from the Democrat and Republican primaries are already considered unacceptable by so many, and the number of like-minded folks on this matter could easily grow to reach the 35%-40% necessary to win this election. I encourage folks to vote for the candidate who best represents their views. If McCain best represents your views, I hope you’ll stand up and say so. Alan Keyes — by far — represents my views better than the other candidates. I’m glad he’s still a candidate.
But for a politician, he has to learn how to navigate the media, media images, and the propaganda of the sound bite. And not to yell or rely on overly theatrical oratory. Just as St. Paul made use of his Roman cititzenship, he has to stay in the game and not get marginalized to the sidelines or fringes. In today's game he would figure out what deals to cut to get on FOXNEWS to challenge the dangerous policies proposed by Barack Obama.
Alan may not win this battle and America might not either. But the battle over moral principles and such things as embryonic stem cell research need to be back in the center of politics, at the leadership level of the Republican party and the conservative movement. This will go on beyond the McCain-Obama contest in 2008. McCain's lukewarm appeal for conservatives demonstrates this. The VP selection will reveal whether or not Dobson was right this time. But who will explain to McCain and the other Republicans why selling out on embryo research is wrong? Who is going to speak to those issues in the Republican party? At the moment, conservatives appear to be without a leader.
There won't be an intellectual debate about the logical and metaphysical relation between moral premises and the American founding in this election cycle. We've got the Paris Hilton ad, the Obamas' fist pump, and the "Yes we can" and "CHANGE" slogans. That's the situation. Leo Strauss is not going to save the Republic this year.
A flood is a flood. You’re still drowned.
You’re fooling yourself about SCOTUS appointments, too. There won’t be any that don’t pass Teddy Kennedy’s muster in a McCain administration.
And, with a castrated formerly “conservative” leadership, there won’t be anything to stand in the Left’s way. Nada.
With seven of the nine sitting judges having been picked by erstwhile Republicans, and little having come out of them but detailed instructions about how to “legally” kill babies, your claims about trusting McCain in this regard ring particularly hollow.
Lip service will only carry you so far. And some of us are well past the point of accepting any more of your meaningless promises.
Why would you vote for Keyes when Washington has more executive experience and military experience, including years of combat time?
And actually, I was using the Proverbs to point out your unseemly new role as a mocker.
Yes, I was quite aware of your intent. I'm also standing by my assessment of your pronouncements. They're petty and haughty expressions of holier-than-thou egotism. Take this, for example:
This is another demonstration of one of the things I hate the most about the candidacy of John Judas McCain and his new Whig Party II: the corruption of the morals of conservative folk.
You say I'm a mocker? That I hate and insult you because you offered me correction and/or instruction? Well then, here's your opportunity to prove how wise you are, in your reaction to the following:
For you to proclaim other Christians as immoral because they disagree with you on electoral tactics is haughty, egotistical, and despicable. We have decided to handle a bad situation in a different way than you and have done so with good motives (like the desire to have an adult answer the phone at the White House at 3am) and for you to continue to pretend or assume otherwise and go around delivering insults and condemnations over it is a case of something else that was warned against in Proverbs: [stirring] up dissension among brothers. (Prov. 6:19) You should repent of it immediately.
There. Rebuke delivered. Now we'll see if I get more insults delivered from a high horse or if you live by the message you've preached to me. Let's see about your morals.
Your vote helps Obama, my vote helps McCain.
Your vote helps elect Obama, the biggest Marxist, anti-American ever to run for office.
By shilling for Keyes you really are shilling for Obama.
Despite all your principles and good intentions, YOUR ACTIONS help the one many think is the most evil pol in our history.
EV, there is nothing you or I, or anyone else can say that will change the fact that come next January either McCain or Obama will be POTUS. Those are the only two possibilities.
EternalVigilance, why do you want Barack Hussein Obama to be the next president?
One other thing: McCain’s views represent the gutting of the Reagan personhood pro-life plank in the Republican platform. You’re empowering that. That fact makes a mockery of your screen name.
Once again, a compromiser tries fruitlessly to make a case for why the results of their own compromise of principle are the fault of those who will not compromise principle.
The election of liberals is the fault of those who vote for liberals, not the fault of those who won’t vote for liberals.
Is this too difficult for you to understand?
Why are you helping to elect a Marxist?
