Yea or Nay?
I say, YEA.
I’m a FReeper, been one for a while.
I will NOT have anyone tell me what is okay to watch or not watch. It is personal freedom. If I remeber correctly, that is something EVERY true FReeper is supposed to be behind, 100%.
If I choose to boycott or not to boycott, it is MY choice. I happen to like the Olympics, and I have ever since I was old enough to know what they were.
I especailly like the Games when an American individual or team wins a gold medal. I never get tired of hearing the “Star-Spangled Banner” being played as the flag is raised, or watching the faces of our men and women as they stand there, often in tears, knowing that they just won one for themselves and the United States of America.
I respect the thoughts of other FReepers and their decisions to not watch. I would hope you’ll respect my decision to take them in and enjoy them.
Yes, the Chinese are run by a Communist dictaorship. We, however are Americans. We can choose what WE want to do.
I choose to watch.
You seem to be more about bullying, than tallying.
This is a ‘vortex thread’, meant to sucker people into the vortex of arguing over something meaningless.
Gack.
Going all the way to China to look for traitors is a reach.. I suggest starting in Congress, the Supremes, with a huge volumn of socialist aids attending them all.. You do know Ccommunism is Socialism don't you.. After that go to Academia, the Main Stream media and some of the Republican Party.. Yes some of the pubies are dyed in the wool commies too..
Going all the way to China is a waste of effort..
Washington D.C. is where you will find the really bad guys..
Communism is just a distraction anyway.. SILLY...
GLOBALISM is what you should be looking for.. with globalists LIKE: Hillary and Bill Clinton, Borat Obama, John McLaim, Rudy Giuliani, and get ready for this......
GEORGE BUSH.. BOTH of them and his Brother too..
Globalism is America biggest threat.. Globalism that is seeking to lessen America Nationalistic bent and make way for the New World Order.. WHich would be Global Socialism.. Most people have no idea of what socialism is anymore anyway.. since socialism is already EVERYWHERE.. Americas Social Security Sytem is PURE socialism.. not like socialism but PURE socialism.. And ALL of America WANTS IT.. Americans ARE socialists already..
If you like sports and watching world-class athletes compete, you should be open-minded enough to watch the olympics without getting politically worked-up or with some agenda.
Call me a traitor.
First of all I don’t consider the United States a Democracy any more. We have rampant voter fraud nullifying legitimate votes. We have a professional political class who’s reelections is almost just a sure thing anymore. We have unelected judges making laws from the bench. We have a press more controlled than any dictatorship could have but it is self control rather than from a political leader.
Unless we retake our country and return it to what it was 100 years ago I can’t call it a Democracy.
Second, it isn’t only the United States. Public opinion polls in other so called Democracies find that the public dislike their governments as well.
On the other hand, even with oppression I think the current leadership in nations like China, Dubai, and even Russia would be reelected easily if it came to a vote.
As for Civilization, have you turned on the TV or listened to popular music lately? The West is devolving in terms of culture and civilization. The Chinese from the programs that I see seem to want all the high civilization we once embraced such as classical music or art that actually looked like something.
Liberalism has poisoned the West. Right now unless we can reverse it the only hope for Western Civilization is China.
Otherwise 100 years from now visitors to the planet will find that Europe is nothing but 7th century Moslem’s states and Americans will be using donkeys for transportation and speaking only Spanish.
COVER it in any way.
I feel that every American (including President Bush) that are in attendance at the Olympics
That IS in attendance.
I think if the Chinese can learn proper English, we should respect that.
I have the men's volleyball on.
Just to annoy you.
:)
No, the government is. Most Chinese people are victims of the ChiCom government not supporters of it.
I have no use for the Olympics. The ChiComs are unquestionably using it as a propaganda tool and they have heaped loads of suffering on their own people and others to make themselves look good.
TIVOing most of it and watching as much as we can.
They rock man, what a silly question, politics ain’t everything, many things are more important, hell, almost everything is. If you’re skipping the olympics because China is evil that is just plain silly.
YEA all the way.
What could be better for America right now than to have two weeks to root for our amazing (and gracious) athletes and this awesome country they represent?? My patriotism SOARS during the Olympics and I’m sure I’m not alone.
Politics is a big interest of mine but during these games I put it all aside and just enjoy myself. Life is too short, this campaign season has been too long, and I’m relaxing for a change.
I don’t care about the Olympics because I simply find them boring beyond belief. China has nothing to do with it.
I’m watching the swimming right now.
McCain has really been running a lot of commercials during the whole day!
A good idea, IMHO.
Count one more “Yea.”
It’s great seeing President Bush there, enjoying himself and supporting the athletes.
Go America!
....Well the Chinesse went crazy yesterday for the American men’s basketball “Redeemed Team USA” or what I call the redeemed the dream team men’s basketball team. They ate it up.
These same Chinesse you say are our enemies cheered Team USA when it made its appearance in the bird’s nest Friday night. Take issue with the government, not the people.
I’m proud to say that I haven’t watched a second of these Olympics. And it’s going to stay that way.
You gotta be kidding.
An acquaintance of mine told me he and his wife had just returned from a month in China teaching children English. They are retired NY City schoolteachers who vacation there.
When I asked him what he thought of having the Olympics in China, he said he thought it was wonderful. I pressed him further, “but we are endorsing a totalitarian regime with no human rights.”
“The Chinese people want it that way” he answered. “They like the structure.”
I was floored and mumbled that famous Musollini quote about the trains running on time. Then I questioned how he knew this to be so. “They tell me,” he said. I responded, “but they aren’t free to talk.”
He shrugged and did not respond.
The Olympics are supposed to be a time to put aside politcal differences. And if Americans didn’t go, foreign devils would win all the Gold.
