UIowa professor accused of accepting bribes for higher grades

IOWA CITY - A University of Iowa political science professor faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of offering good grades in exchange for sexual favors from four female students.

Arthur H. Miller, 66, was charged with four counts of accepting bribes, a Class C felony. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail on Friday afternoon and released on his own recognizance.

Miller is accused of offering to improve grades for four students in exchange for favors from May 8 through May 13.

Attempts to reach Miller were unsuccessful.

On May 8, according to a police complaint, Miller told a student she was struggling with her grade in his class. The student said Miller told her “she would have to do something for him,” the complaint says. Miller allegedly then grabbed and sucked on her breast.

Later, he sent the student an e-mail message congratulating her on getting an A+ and “offering to meet next week to discuss assistance getting into law school,” according to the complaint.

Miller was accused of two similar actions May 12. According to one complaint, Miller told a student he would give her an A if she let him fondle her breasts. He did so and asked to lick them, the complaint says.

Then he sent her an e-mail saying he wanted to meet with her again, explaining that “a lasting memory of a lovely Monet cannot be formed in 20 seconds.”

Also on May 12, Miller is accused of asking a student — who met with Miller about her grade — to take off her top. The woman refused and left the office.

On May 13, Miller met with a student about final grades and “repeatedly asked her to take off her shirt” while offering to give her an A, the complaint said. Police quoted the woman as saying that Miller said “girls in New Orleans do it all the time just for beads and that her grade was on the line.”

I’m certain the professor will be “encouraged” to practice his sucking fetish in prison....

Miller allegedly then grabbed and sucked on her breast.

Perhaps he was trying to convince his coworkers he is not queer.

By the looks of him, he was trying to convince himself that he was not queer.

In 1983, Miller traveled to the People's Republic of China to produce and direct Death of a Salesman at the People's Art Theatre in Beijing.

The only surprise here is that the student was female.

A lasting memory of the shower at Anamosa or Fort Madison is likely to be perfectly impressed in this guy's memory within far less than 20 seconds.

A brief update - news orgs are now reporting this hour that the good professor is now “missing”, his wife indicates a possible suicide note was found this morning, and he probably is armed with a rifle. His attempt at purchasing a handgun was apparently rebuffed in June. His car was found today at Hickory Hills park, and police are actively searching the area.

One of the oddities I noticed was that the news orgs kept saying he was “missing”; which to my way of thinking might be correct, but then, he was scheduled for trial so, wasn’t he out on bail? Then, as an afterthought it was apparently considered to mention that oh, by the way, he has a .30-06 rifle with him. At one point, the news orgs stated that “artillery rounds” were found in the trunk of his car. This may refer to ammunition, but I’m not sure.

Anyhoo, that makes him a bail jumper or whatever? A missing person is one who might be subject to foul play the way I see it.

Next, all kinds of duly appointed authorities are looking for this guy in a known area - hundreds maybe - and for that matter with “missing persons” it’s common to use a dog and a piece of the missing persons clothing. Search and rescue does it all the time, I guess. No joy, though conveniently a couple days later a “hiker” finds the body. What’s up with that?
