I didn't know that. I haven't read anything of Clancey’s for years, but I think his novels tend to be formulaic, same basic plots, only persons and places are changed.

I rarely read novels anymore, only those that give me insight into the real world, such as The Haj by Leon Uris.

Clancey is a braggart. His novel are about 800 pages long yet only about 400 are needed. He tries to overwhelm his readers on his knowledge of military affairs (which he does have a lot). I have also noticed that his newer novels have more “sex scenes” in them.

I found a copy of The Haj in a thrift store last summer. I was mesmerized by its accuracy and insight into Arab/Muslim culture.

Nothing has changed since Leon Uris wrote it several decades ago.

I highly recommend it.
