ANN ARBOR, MI Ignoring enormous community opposition, the Gainesville, Florida City Council earlier this year enacted an ordinance that granted special privileges to men who perceive themselves as women to use womens bathrooms in any school, business or public facility.
As a result, a coalition of citizens and businesses, in Gainesville, formed Citizens for Good Public Policy, for the purpose of enacting a Charter Amendment that would prevent the addition of such bizarre special categories to the Citys civil rights ordinance.
The group gathered 8,800 signatures, several thousand more than the 5,581 needed to place the Charter Amendment proposal on the March 2009 ballot. The supervisor of elections for Gainesville has until September 14, 2008 to certify the signatures. If passed by the voters, the Charter Amendment will invalidate the City Councils recently enacted gender identity category, which most citizens agree creates awkward and potentially harmful situations

Allowing male sexual deviants to hang out the womens’ toilets probably isn’t a very good idea. But hey! What do I know? I’m an “unenlightened” old school American.
Words fail me. Lunacy.
Geez. Just put some porta-potties outside any public building. Problem solved.
Huh? Allowing deviants males to use the same bathrooms as little girls? I don't think so! Homey don't play that...
University of Florida is a light-weight party school - this creepy lunacy fits it...
nah....that won’t work.
How do you mark them?...inside there’s men, women, parents with small children, I recently saw “families” at the mall...
what do these toilets say?
Loons?
menatlly ill?
non-physically handicapped?
gender confused?
Sheesh, it’ll take YEARS for them to figure something like that out!
And mark my words, they’ll just urinate outside in front of children, get arrested, tie up the courts, cost taxpayers gagillions, until they get their way!
One of those freaks should sue the city for not equiping the women’s bathrooms with urinals.
This has nothing to do with the Univeristy of Florida, why a comment like that?
Well, I live in Gainesville, Florida and (as you might imagine) I signed the petition to correct the stupidest city ordinance ever written.
The mayor of Gainesville is a complete doucebag liberal, though and believes that this ordinance will provides “those with a transgender identity” the safety to live their lives as transgender. Basically, the “who are we to judge” approach.
She also believes that transgender individuals (i.e., transvestites) would be put in harms way if they were having to go wee-wee in a men’s bathroom.
It’s really hard to believe to see her statements about this issue and think that she actually has a brain. But, she’s more brainwashed with the liberal agenda than anything else.
How she can’t understand that sexual predators could just “pretend” to be transgendered and wait to pounce on unsuspecting women, teen girls, or female children defies a normal person’s thought patterns.
The mayor should be ashamed of herself, not as a mayor, but as a human being.
LOL, I just posted this in the bloggers & personal section....about gender equality in Europe.....and then I see this here.

Liberals HAVE thought patterns? :)
That’s sad. Good luck with your city!
I can relate, though thankfully not in this regard, YET.
We have Shirley Franklin here in the ATL. :(
But I do have to admit on a few issues she’s at least tough and stands up to even worse libs than herself...she’s fiscally more responsible and less corrupt than Bill Campbell ever dreamed of being!
Fortunately, I live in Covington Georiga, but we too have our share of lunatics.
I think people with thought patterns daydream of her going to the restroom and having a big creepy hairy transvestite follow her around to the bathroom, not “suggesting” that of course but...
She’s acting as the perfect little Satan’s helper (ie, liberal) that she is -
blurring the lines between male & female, making them indistinguishable from one another, instead of how God made them, to be different, and to perform different roles and functions, and to be the two halves of the whole.
Genesis 5:2
Comments like this make me think you are a light-weight thinker. University of Florida is a great school. THe decision of the City Council has ZERO to do with the Univeristy. 98% of the UF students can’t/don’t vote in local issues.
The City Council decision was a bone-headed decision. The PEOPLE are making it right.
Your argument is like blaming Georegetown for a Washington DC City Council decision...
I perceive myself to be me. I WANT MY OWN BATHROOM!
If the University of Florida were not in Gainesville shit like this wouldn’t happen.
Our society is really circling the drain.
The Gainesville metro area has less than 200,000 people. The University of Florida, in Gainesville, has about 30,000 students, plus about 20,000 staff. The University gives the Gainesville area a totally different political atmosphere than the nearby counties. I live in the next county south, where the county seat is Ocala.
I am aware of the demographics because 1) I was born at Shands Hospital. (on the campus) 2) I recieved my undergrad from there.
My point was that the University does not make the laws of the city, or county, which this articvle is about. So again, I want to know why it was even mentioned. It is a good school, and I am just ashamed it gets so much flack for being a party school
Nothing in this thread has to do with UF being a party school. It is an American institution of higher learning, and therefore its faculty, and much of its staff is on the hard left. These leftists are in control of the Democrat Party in the Gainesville area, and it is the votes of these UF people who put the Dems in charge of the county and city governments, unlike all of the surrounding counties.
