Noted political expert and gaseous far left windbag Michael Moore advises the Democratic Party how to lose the Presidential election.
With a heaping helping of contempt for American voters, to pander to the Guardian’s audience.
Keep saying nice things about McCain. Like how he’s been “good on global warming” and campaign finance. Keep reminding a country at war that he and he alone is a war hero. Not to mention an all-round good guy. Say that enough and what happens? The same thing that happens when you repeat over and over, “Apply directly to the forehead” - people start to believe it! You’ve sold them on the idea that McCain isn’t a bad egg, and they do not hear the rest of what you have to say: “But John McCain is four more years of George W Bush.” If you keep saying he used to be a “maverick”, our less-attention-span citizens hear only the “maverick” part, not the past tense verb included in that sentence.
This is not to say you should in any way demean John McCain as a human being or as an American. Disagreeing strongly with his policies or the direction he would lead the country is not the same as denigrating him as a person. This particular style of politics is the cesspool that the Right and the Republican Party apparatus swim in. We do not further our agenda by imitating them. Fight, fight back, and fight hard - but fight clean. It’s ultimately what I believe the majority of Americans would like to see.
There is also nothing wrong with saying nice things about McCain’s constituency, and you should. We want to hold out our hand to people who have voted for Republicans in the past. Many of them are tired, a good number are disgusted. They won’t agree with a lot of what we stand for, but they’ve had it up to here with the Republicans and we should make sure our tent is big enough to welcome them in.
So if you want to help elect McCain, keep blessing him as if he were the white knight who accidentally hopped on the wrong horse. Forget to continually point out that he is truly up to no good. Keep pulling your punches. Don’t remind people McCain wants to help the oil companies even more than Bush did. Don’t bring up that he wants to outlaw all abortion. Back away from painting McCain as the guy who thinks it’s a good idea to stay in Iraq until pigs fly. That way, if you keep praising him, you can send a mixed message to the less-informed who are simply not going to figure it out. When they walk into a voting booth, they will see two names on the ballot:
· Barack Obama
· War Hero
Trust me, this ain’t Sweden. War Hero wins every time.
"Herro, my name is Michael Moore, and I am an idiot."
It appears that Michael Moore may be correct for once.
He seems to be angry that the other side is co-opting his own B.S.
I can’t wait until Zucker’s, “An American Carol” comes out. (Oct. 3) I hear it slams Moore pretty good.
I agree that the Democratic Party is stupid, primarily because they listen to fat idiots like Michael Moore.
Michael, I know you are fat as a hog and have been laughed at for years. But this is no reason for you culture of hate. You never say anything nice, only tear down.
1. It's ALWAYS somebody ELSE that's stupid...NEVER you, right?
2. This ain't Sweden...Right, it's not. Don't let that stop you from leaving America and moving to Sweden. Course, that would be a mean thing to do to the Swedish.
...and...
3. Get over the Bush hating, okay? It's really unbecoming and well...quite ugly of you, actually. MOVE ON . whatEVER! okay?
Moore’s attitude is typical of elitist liberals...that the vast majority of Americans are too stupid to make most decisions in their lives so the liberal elites must decide what’s good for them. Obama shows the same elitism...remember his comments to the uber-liberals in San Francisco about bitter people clinging to their guns and religion. He seriously believes every word of that.
This particular style of politics was perfected by Michael Moore and his ilk.
He's a schmuck.
Good, please don't - This is why I'm glad Obama's the nominee. He and the Democrats are now the fire-breathing liberals that they are, instead of this ridiculous "New Democrat" or "moderate" crapola. If the Republicans ran as conservatives and if Democrats ran as liberals, Republicans would win in landslides. Conservatism always trump liberalism when the the contrast is clear and sharp.
>>>He’s a schmuck.
You shouldn’t demean other schmucks by comparing them to Moore. :)
Right... This from one of the hard left who seek to criminalize policy differences. Who falsely edits his "movies" in ways to demean those with whom he disagrees. And of course, as we saw in his BOR interview, one who sees no difference between a mistake and a lie. So lies MUST BE OK for him to weave.

My best guess is that his fans and supporters are either hard core leftists, or people that appear in the "Jay Walking" segments on the Tonight Show.

“Get over the Bush hating, okay? It’s really unbecoming and well...quite ugly of you, “
Michael Moore could love and adore George Bush and he’d still be ugly. If you looked like that, wouldn’t you be a hateful person?
They all paid good money to watch his stupid films so I guess he's right.
Oh, Moore must be refering to all those “Paid for by the Committee to Elect Obama” adds that fade up on the image of a sunrise behind an apple pie cooling on a windowsill, with a gentle-voiced narrator intoning, “John McCain is a good guy. He fought and suffered for our country. When the Democratic party needed his vote most, he was there for us. Please, don’t vote for him in November.”
Moore is the one with a mixed message. “Stop praising McCain, but don’t attack him!” The only way that message makes sense is if you truly believe that it is possible to criticize McCain without attacking him. Of course, I know Moore is not naive enough to believe that Republicans originated (and patented) the smear campaign. But he may be stupid enough to believe that it is possible to seem gentlemanly and forthright while attacking your opponent.
Who is to say that conventional negative adds are not gentlemanly? They are designed for the great unwashed, true, but that does not make them dirty. I have seldom ever seen an attack add that wasn’t premised upon one substantive issue or another (even if the charges laid on the attackee were spurious).
What are Obama’s adds about? Iraqi quagmire and Big Oil. What are McCain’s adds about? Inexperience, high taxes, and energy indepence. Sounds like both campaigns fulfill Moore’s proscriptions. Where’s the cesspool?

The reason dems hate negative ads so much is:
(1) They don’t need them—for the most part, the Old Media runs that part of their campaign for them—so attack ads are the great equalizer for Republicans;
(2) Many of them don’t think that accusing W of genocide blah blah blah or crap like “Bush Lied People Died” is an attack. So they see themselves as upright campaigners; and
(3) Their candidates depend on concealing what they are and pretending to be moderates to a much greater extent than do Republicans. The Old Media will not spend any time pointing out a democrat’s true beliefs, to the extent they are out of sync with the beliefs of Americans. Thus, an ad that points out that Obama wants to raise taxes or wants to force all states to have to accept California homosexual marriages is an “attack ad” and it is hurts really badly because it undermines their central strategy.
