"Joe Lieberman, the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee who has endorsed John McCain, is being vetted as a potential running mate for the Republican presidential hopeful, according to an adviser to Mr McCains campaign."
"Conservatives would be pissed as hell I think you would have a revolt, but sometimes John does what John wants to do, the McCain adviser said.

If McCaine goes with Joe, and pulls a William Henry Harrison, there wouldn't be much difference, apart from Iraq/Middle East policy...
McCain hates Republicans, and he really hates conservative Republicans.
But every day, in the darkness of my mailbox, he begs for my money.
(LOL! How true! ;>)
“I suppose if the media names enough names eventually theyll predict the right one.”
Again, several commenters react as if this story is just made up by the media. The writer is quoting a McCain adviser, and attributing very specific statements to that adviser.
So, unless the writer totally fabricated a story, a McCain adviser put Lieberman’s name out again as being on the short-list.
I don’t expect it to be Lieberman, but it’s not helpful for the speculation to be floating around. But I wouldn’t be completely shocked it if does prove to be him, the maverick being the maverick and all.
I admit I resemble that comment. This is turning into an immensely depressing election.
Yeah--stupidity compounded with a preening vanity. I laugh about the O-Messiah, but I also get sick of McMartyr, my friends.
McCain-Lieberman 2008!
I am SOOOOOOO there!
A perfect selection to wrap up that elusive 30% of voters who actually decide elections.
Add a dash of a Black-Militant Muslim-Christian...albeit one espousing Black Liberation Ideology....and we have this headline on November 5th, 2008
McCain Elected the 44th President of the United States in Reagan-like landside.

and not upon the hole!
“Yeah—stupidity compounded with a preening vanity. I laugh about the O-Messiah, but I also get sick of McMartyr, my friends. “
I know what you mean. After it became apparent that McCain would win the nomination, I definitely felt that McCain and a Dem. Congress would cause more long-term damage than Obama and a Dem. Congress. I thought that for several months.
Then, the Messiah’s trip to the Middle East and Europe, and the weeks since, about convinced me that I was wrong and should support McCain.
Now, the past few days have about convinced me that my first reaction was correct and that McCain would do more long-term damage.
He and his campaign are making some very stupid blunders (unforced errors), and they seem to almost enjoy it.
Good point.
So, unless the writer totally fabricated a story, a McCain adviser put Liebermans name out again as being on the short-list.
I wouldn't rule out the former, but I suppose it was probably a trial balloon to measure response. Whether they will piss off conservatives less than enough to lose them while bringing more independents into their tent.
I dont expect it to be Lieberman, but its not helpful for the speculation to be floating around. But I wouldnt be completely shocked it if does prove to be him, the maverick being the maverick and all.
Nothing really surprises anymore right? He might gamble that conservatives' love of country (and desire to avoid the disaster that Obama would bring) would overrule their desire to make a political statement by staying home. I don't know if he really understands the angst out here in conservative-land.
“He might gamble that conservatives’ love of country (and desire to avoid the disaster that Obama would bring) would overrule their desire to make a political statement by staying home. I don’t know if he really understands the angst out here in conservative-land.”
And he’d probably win that gamble in most states, but all he has to do is lose the gamble in a swing state or two and he’s lost election. And that loss can come by pissing of a few thousand or a few tens of thousands here and there.
A stupid way to conduct a campaign.
On his Saturday morning show, Larry Kudlow was just puzzling over the fact that McCain’s sidekick Lindsay Graham is part of the Gang of 10 that is weakening the drill here, drill now campaign issue for Republicans.
More dumb stuff from the Republican side.
No...John McCain is political death for the wacky far-RIGHT fringe.
Not mainstream fiscal and social Conservatives. Like me! Like 90% of Freepers.
The Islamic Religion has supposedly 1% of their believers who are 24/7 jihadists. The Conservative base in the GOP has about 10% of their believers who are one-or-two issue political jihadists.
Both need to be condemned by their majority of faithful.
We have what? 200,000 registered members on FreeRepublic...but about 200 of them are responsible for painting us all as 'scary extremists' who want to peek inside our bedrooms and tell a woman she has no personal rights.
Ladies and Gentlemen here.....please? Let's win the damned election. Because if we don't...we're all in for a bad time.
Remember....if Gore had won in 2000...the 2nd Amendment would not have been saved by a 5-4 vote. It would be repealed in it's present form.
WAKE UP! For the sake of the United States of America WAKE UP!
Although Barack Obama and his hard-left domestic policies, complete naiveté when it comes to the real and deadly intentions of our enemies toward the U.S. coupled with his obvious disdain for our country both offends and frightens me, John McCain is simply politically unpalatable for all the well-known reasons, specifically his penchant for promoting amnesty for illegal aliens. I don't believe he's changed his attitude on that crucial issue one bit, despite his rhetoric to the contrary.
I'm voting for an independent presidential candidate in November because in Connecticut, the majority vote is always overwhelmingly Democrat and that party's presidential nominee always receives our puny 7 electoral votes. That being the case, my vote for an independent presidential candidate is effectively moot and won't change the outcome of the election in any real way. I regret that is the case but I simply cannot cast a vote for John McCain, a man I oppose on so many serious issues.
If McCain does choose Lieberman as his running mate its true that the Connecticut governor (Jodi Rell) would then appoint the person to fill Lieberman's senate seat, were he elected to the vice presidency. I have absolutely no confidence that Governor Rell, a proven RINO, would appoint anyone but another RINO, at best, if not a 'conservative' Democrat to Lieberman's seat in the senate. The Democrat party totally controls the Connecticut legislature. The Connecticut GOP is basically moribund and could not retaliate politically in any real manner against Rell's choice.
Unfortunately, the majority of Connecticut's voters are politically liberal. Proof: Christopher Dodd has been our senator for 27 long years (a Congressman for 6 years prior) and he is a joke. A venal, abrasive, narcissistic little man who does next to nothing for Connecticut in the senate and never met a Latin dictator he didn't embrace. That Connecticut voters send this useless politician back to the senate every six years is depressing but that is the reality. Dodd is not an anomaly in Connecticut politics.
Liberal Joe Lieberman has been 'our' U.S. senator for 20 years and only fell into disfavor with the national Democrat party when he rightly supported the war in Iraq. They ran Joe out of the party and nominated some multi-millionaire ultra-liberal to run against him in 2006. Lieberman adroitly switched to 'Independent', ran on that basis and won, mostly on better name recognition and a slighter softer image than the annoying leftist (Ned Lamont) that he ran against.
Connecticut is politically infested with liberal Democrat politicians and voters. They are slowly killing the state economy and don't care. We lose most of our bright young college graduates to other states because of the ridiculously high cost of living in Connecticut, abetted by stratospheric tax rates and a legislature that is wholly 'owned' by the powerful government employee labor unions.
With all that being the case, as a Connecticut resident/voter, I see absolutely no reason to vote for John McCain in November and if he choose Joe Lieberman as his V.P., I won't cheer or change my vote.
Where is that bullsh#t meter? No way. If McCain picked Lieberman his campaign would be over and he knows it. McCain will pick someone younger and more conservative.
I’ve also heard Ridge bantered around. If McCain chooses anyone but a conservative he is going to find himself a very lonely man. There are somethings that we can overlook and it would be a pity since he has did such a good job of late to throw it all away because of bad advice and an insider politics perspective. The VP isn’t going to deliver a state.
That is a pipe dream that history proves almost never happens and so what if one candidate can deliver one state but ticks off potential voters so much you lose typically easy win red states? McCain should ride his increasing popularity and his demonstrated integrity in his ability to tell people to their face how he disagrees with them. He did it to Ellen, he did it to the Urban league, and he did it to Iowa Farmers. This is refreshing. He may not be the man unafraid that I envisioned but that is the type of leader we’ve needed. If George Bush had been a tougher kind of President less inclined to make nice he would be a much better standing now. People will fight for you if you show you have fight in you.
Are you NUTS??? with Hussien in the White House, we will LOSE - BIG TIME!! With a veto-proof majority in the HOUSE and SENATE, the MARXISTS of Robert Mugabe Obama, King Harry and Queen Nancy will try to ban FREE SPEECH from talk radio, raise taxes, put the military under UN control, NOT BUILD NUCLEAR PLANTS or OIL REFINERIES, nationalize health care, put MARXIST JUDGES on the SCOTUS and let the WORLD COURT make our laws.
No, Thanks -- I'll vote AGAINST OBAMA - by voting McCain - and I'm not happy with the choice, but a 3rd party won't EVER win!!
Don’t worry, this is just propaganda to try to piss off the GOP base.
“No...John McCain is political death for the wacky far-RIGHT fringe.”
Here we have another Bob Michel Republican, longing for forty more years of minority status. Yep, get rid of all those right wingers and you’ll be back to the good old days of the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties.
“Where is that bullsh#t meter? No way. If McCain picked Lieberman his campaign would be over and he knows it. McCain will pick someone younger and more conservative.”
I hope you’re right, but these rumors don’t contribute one thing to the campaign, and they need to be staunched if there’s nothing to them.
