The flaky filmmaker for whom John Edwards risked his political future and his family is a former "party girl" who went from narcotics to nirvana.
Rielle Hunter's résumé also includes actress, producer, New Age blogger - and now, home wrecker.
A Florida native, the 44-year-old divorcée grew up in a well-to-do household but is now deep in debt, a source told The Post.
Hunter, born Lisa Druck, first turned up in New York in the 1980s, where she hooked up with novelist Jay McInerney.
"She used to be a real party girl," he told Page Six. "When she wasn't out at nightclubs, she was taking acting classes.
"We dated for only a few months, but in that period I spent a lot of time with her and her friends, whose behavior intrigued and appalled me to such an extent that I ended up basing a novel on the experience." It was called "Story of My Life."
In 2005 she caught the eye of her soon-to-be politico paramour at the Regency Hotel bar. She was out with a group, drinking "like an old cougar fool," a source said. "She's an idiot, a fool, a moron, a faux guru, but not mean-spirited."
A year later, Edwards' political action committee paid $100,000 in a four-month period to a newly formed company run by Hunter, although she had virtually no experience making campaign films, ABC News reported. Hunter directed production of four Web videos showing the presidential wannabe in supposedly candid moments as well as delivering a public address on morality.

I must say I was surprised and not surprised. Surprised that Edwards had an affair with anyone as he seems so self involved that I thought all he would need was himself. I was not surprised that, when he did go for a woman, she turned out to be an airhead...listening to her chatter was a postiive embarrassment to womankind. But on further consideration they do seem perfectly matched.
Mr. Edwards wife is to be pitied, she is facing a terminal disease and now has positive knowledge that the father of her children, who will be left to raise them, is a fool.

John Edwards was in the Regency Hotel Bar and became attracted to an airhead woman who was obviously drunk and then hired her to work for his campaign? Obviously, John Edwards knew exactly what he was doing and showed very poor judgement.
She became pregnant, she decided to keep the baby, and the situation is now her meal ticket for money. He seems to have taken responsibility and claimed paternity because there is no other reason for him to be having secret meetings in a hotel with her and her baby.
Because he is clean cut and looks like a Ken-Doll - the fault lies with the tramp/home-wrecker. That's what I think I'm reading on this forum. This can't possibly be the only time he's had an affair. It's just the first time he was caught.
My jaded self now openly wonders if she really is terminal or they used that as a complete ploy to try to win the election, since it was announced right around the time he decided to run, if memory serves.

This always intrigued me. All of the women Clinton fooled around with were trashed in the most demeaning ways, but it was always couched as a reflection of THEIR character. Nothing much was said about Clinton’s judgment in consorting with such so-called “sleazy, trashy” women.
Excellent point. Kind of like the trailer trash reference to dragging a 100 dollar bill down the street and seeing what you come up with, BUT, did the one doing the dragging ever get called on it? As the timeless statement says, “it takes two to tango”.
But he’s a hero, now. After all, he ‘came forward’ and ‘admittted his mistakes(s)’ and now he’s ‘sorry.’

I haven't seen an update on her condition since he withdrew from the race. I do hope, for her children's sake, that it was just a scam.
