Iran's Time Bomb
IBD Editorials ^ | August 8, 2008

Geopolitics: Summer vacations, Olympic Games and even election campaigns must not distract us from the frightening reality that Iran is building a nuclear bomb and that it may soon be too late to do anything about it.

The U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China offered Iran a generous package of incentives last week hoping to convince the mullahs that developing a nuclear weapon is not in their interest. Iran's answer? A vague promise of a "final response" somewhere down the line.

It's obvious that Tehran is stalling. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad knows that the most serious nation in the group — the U.S. — is going through a change of administrations, and that all he has to do is wait. If Barack Obama wins — and Iran 's leaders clearly believe he will — then game over. Obama won't be nearly as tough or as resilient as President Bush, or even France's Nicolas Sarkozy.

That's the game we're playing. Iran has doubled to 6,000 the number of high-tech centrifuges it has working to turn raw yellowcake uranium into highly refined nuclear material that can be used in a bomb. And tests of its Shahab-3 missiles, capable of reaching Europe, show Tehran is serious about its threats.

Somewhere along the way we have started offering rewards to people so that they do not misbehave when we should be punishing them if they do misbehave. Haven’t any of these folks at the state department ever raised children?

Iran will have its nukes, if it doesn’t already. The West diddled and fiddled while Iran worked feverishly in developing its nukes, and now it’s probably too late to stop the runaway train that will be a nuclear-armed Iran.

The state department is treating others much the same way too many administrations have treated the state department.

It isn't ever going to be "too late", so all the lie back and relax and you'll enjoy it crap has to go.

It isn't too late for the US to blow Ahmadinejad to atoms personally. It isn't too late to send a heavy corps to Teheran and rule the place. It isn't too late to send the air force and blow up all their nuclear sites.

And it won't be too late after they say they have a bomb. It won't be too late after they announce a full scale nuclear test and it is successful. It won't be too late after they build and weaponize multiple warheads. It won't be too late after they nuke Israel. And it won't be too late after they move on to nuking European and American cities by terrorist proxy and demanding things.

At any step along the process up to and including the end, the US can in one moment of resolution and a few hours of action, reduce Iran to a cinder. Pretending we are helpless or it is too hard or any of the usual dodges is outright lying. It will not end until we destroy Iran's nuclear capability. We can lose as many millions of innocent lives before then, we choose. But it won't ever end, until we act.

So can it with the "too late" crap, please.

I do not think that Israel is just going to sit there and allow Iran to go nuclear.

Jason, I believe that the poster was saying “too late” in regards to avoiding the loss of lives / cities scenarios you outlined.

You are correct that it won’t be ‘too late’ to reduce Iran to a cinder. But it may soon be too late to act to prevent Iran doing things that will necessitate us turning it into a cinder. Surely it would be preferable to act prior to it being ‘too late’ to prevent that being the necessary action.

Everyone discussing the matter needs to be fully aware of the international left's preferred plan and policy on Iran, which is first to dither diplomatically, exploiting the west's longing for peace, and then to claim that it is too late and nothing can be done and we will just have to get used to a nuclear Iran, and try to deal with it through talk, appeasement, and deterrence. Just as they proposed dealing with the communists throughout the cold war. This is Obama's policy and is in all the position papers of the left's foreign policy experts, and is the position driving the moonbats into the streets with their "don't touch Iran" posters. And it will lead directly to the deaths of millions of innocent people, not to "peace".

Do not give aide and comfort to them by talking about it being "too late", even hypothetically. Words mean things. Be careful.

“So can it with the ‘too late’ crap, please.”

Chill out, pal. I didn’t say it was too late for someone to turn Iran into a green-glass parking lot; I said it would be too late to prevent Iran from having a nuke. I lived through the Cold War, am a Vietnam vet (USAF), and am fully aware of America’s capabilities if it ever decided to exercise them. Iran is no match for us. But, a nuclear Iran has the potential to wound us; and given the fact that Iran is not as rational as the Soviet Union was, or China was and still is, should give any thinking person pause.

The thinking people have all left the building. And Iran can do more than wound us, if we elect this putz Obama as commander in chief.
