John Edwards, the Democrats' 2004 vice-presidential candidate and a potential Cabinet member for Barack Obama, tonight admitted that he had consistently lied about having an affair.
Mr Edwards had been dogged by internet gossip, fuelled by anonymously sourced stories in the supermarket tabloid The National Enquirer, that he had an affair last year with Rielle Hunter, a film-maker, while running for president.
It was also rumoured that he had fathered an illegitimate child in the relationship, an allegation he continued to deny in an interview with ABC News.
In the interview Edwards confesses that he did have an affair with 44-year old Ms Hunter, but said that he did not love her.

Yeah, well let’s just see if this gets as much press as Larry ‘Wide Stance’ Craig. I, for one, won’t be holding my breath waiting for it.

He’s admitted to the affair but claims it was back in 2006 when his wife’s cancer was in remission. He also claims (all this in an ABC article) that the timing was such that this couldn’t be his child.
In addition, he claims to never have given the woman any money but speculates friends may have done so without his knowledge.
And, while he admits to being in the hotel on July 21st as the Enquirer claims (without his wife’s knowledge), he never explains his presence there, this long after the affair was supposedly ended.
He says also he is not the father of the baby. He says also that he started the affair when his wife’s cancer was in remission.
And we should believe these lies, too?

What a POS! He couldn’t wait til his wife died of the cancer?
He was never in love with this mistress, at least that is what Edwards is claiming.
Does that somehow make him more noble or more loyal to his wife?
I guess he is saying what his wife wants to hear?
It is smart not to have a paternity test. That means plausible deniability.
Let’s put John Edwards on the Maury Povich Show and see whether the paternity test comes back positive or not.
