Polish president calls for peace in Georgia, reiterates support for Georgia's territorial integrity

WARSAW. AUGUST 8. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE -

The internal conflict between Georgia and its separatist republic South Osetia should be resolved in a peaceful manner, while Georgia's territorial integrity should be protected, Polish President Lech Kaczynski said Friday.

"The president of Poland is looking at the developing situation in Georgia with the highest concern," reads a statement issued by Kaczynski's office. "The president wishes to stress that conflicts should always be resolved peacefully. The president's position is that Georgia's full sovereignty and territorial integrity should be recognized unconditionally within its legal borders recognized by the international community."

"The president also believes any interference with the Republic of Georgia's internal matters is unacceptable. Such actions, if they are more severe, may give tragic results," reads the statement.

According to Marat Kulakhmetov, commander of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in the conflict zone, following an artillery attack, Georgian troops began storming Tskhinvali, the capital city of breakaway South Ossetia, late Thursday.

Tbilisi had earlier declared a ceasefire, but close to midnight a shelling began against Tskhinvali from Georgian positions, Kulakhmetov said.

Tbilisi said earlier Friday that three Russian Su-24 aircraft attacked Georgian territory. Russia later reportedly denied the information about the attack, AFP reported.

With all the filthy stunts that Russia has pulled in the last 10+ years I'm wondering if the Soviet Union ever really fell.I wouldn't trade places with a citizen of *any* of the USSR’s former satellite state. All I know is that I'd love to see all of them join NATO!

Georgia is being punished by Russia's Red Fascist leadership for trying to do just that.

Funny how Poland couldn’t care less about Serbia’s territorial integrity.
