Right idea, wrong country. It was Germany's imperialism and bullying which pushed the Austrians into declaring war on Serbia.
In fact, Austrians didn't much care about the loss of their Archduke. They didn't like him or his wife, and were just as happy to see them dead.
It was German leaders who needed an excuse to do what they had planned for years. Pushing Austria to invade Serbia gave Germany an excuse to invade France and Russia.
Please, I beg, for anyone who thinks you understand what started World War One, please read the following book:
When a nation stops reporting M3, devalues it’s money creating inflation, when bailouts of large infancial institutions occur (which no doubt taxpayers getting bill) is when your nation is bankrupt.
That doesn’t mean we can’t print or bail ourselves out if we are responsible in the future and change some things. It means that there are high level chances of black swan event, our currency CAN undergo systemic collapse and such would be a short term extremely difficult hardship. Or sure, we can have print so many bills it is the Weiermark Germany post WWI.
The bright news is we do have six times the food as Great Depression and far better communication, you are correct on that as well. But it is becoming evident we cannot support this empire under our current directives. It was far too ambitious to attempt in my opinion. I would have to write a lot of pages to explain all my views on economics but Ron Paul is correct on the economic piece (his views on other areas do make him look strange). Kucinich sounds strange on both foreign and domestic affairs but does have some common
sense in some areas and is a decent man in general.
Hadn't ever heard that story. If true, that would certainly make that barrel of oil the most expensive one in history.
Wrong. A state of war can exist without a Congressional declartion. If someone attacks the US, the President can defend the nation and a state of war exists. A formal declaration is really just a diplomatic nicety in those circumstances.
Either that or Franklin Roosevelt and Congress did not know what they were about.
December 8, 1941
JOINT RESOLUTION Declaring that a state of war exists between the Imperial Government of Japan and the Government and the people of the United States and making provisions to prosecute the same.
Whereas the Imperial Government of Japan has committed unprovoked acts of war against the Government and the people of the United States of America:
Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the state of war between the United States and the Imperial Government of Japan which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared; and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Imperial Government of Japan; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.
Approved, December 8, 1941, 4:10 p.m. E.S.T.
More evidence of pre ceasefire violation preparation by the Russians.
And the fact that you won't see them, and that you won't see the "usual suspects" (ANSWER, Code Pink, etc) in the streets of the US either, shows what the true motivation, and in some cases control, of such groups really lies.
Abkhazia had also been trying to break away for close to two decades now.
(And a big thanks to the Neo-cons who with their push for recognition of Kosovar "independence" lit this match.)
A designator, or a marked target seeker? Something akin to the Pave Penny pod used by the A-10? The opening seems a bit small for a designator, which would be akin to the Pave Tack (which was hugh!) used by the F-111 and F-4, or the LANTIRN targeting pod used on F-15E and F-16. (and F-14).
What "Empire" would that be, the "entitlements Empire"? That's where most of the federal dollars are spent. Not on the military, nor on foreign aid.
Kucinich sounds strange on both foreign and domestic affairs but does have some common sense in some areas and is a decent man in general."
Paul and Kucinich are both good and decent men. I'd be happy to have either as neighbors.
But when it comes to US foreign policy, they are both stark raving lunatics, dead wrong from A to Z.
Here is the truth: US Isolationism, along with European Appeasement, produced World War Two, with 55+ million dead.
By contrast, the US active, "muscular" resistance to Soviet Communism produced the infinitely less destructive "Cold War," which ended not with a bang but a whimper -- by the Communists.
Finally, the US economic condition is no worse overall today than it was during most of the time since Great Depression of the 1930s. Indeed, by some measures, it's never been better.
So, whatever you may WISH, this does not equal "bankrupt."
I think you can add some Environmental groups to the list as well.
I knew those Russian SOBs would do this! Georgia has ‘surrenedered’ and the Russians are just bombing Tblisis unercifully!
and where are the euro weenies? All everyone else is doing is “having UN meetings” ! russia is now moving forward with this land grab. Ukraine is next and on and on it goes.
so much for the end to the cold war and soviet domination!
Of course.
and with Obama, they will be allowed to ..after all the Libs just “love the lefties”.
Of course we do!
Georgia is a pro western ally that has access to oil pipelines. And to allow russia to bully and aggressively do a land grab with Georgia is the beginning of the soviet eruope rebuild.
You are both sooo right. Georgia today, then the Ukraine and when France and Germany have russia breathing down their neck, they won’t go to the UN iwth resoultions..they will come crying to Uncle Sam.
Putin is just disgusting.
thanks. I would have gotten banned with my response.
This Kosovar excuse has been expended long ago. It's essentially bullhockey. The great Putin began his plan to put the old USSR back together again like humpty Dumpty and no one, or no country is going to get in his way without getting decimated.
Any other excuse, be it some dinky little coffee klatch in the middle of nowhere, the U.N. or the world largest superpower will be able to stop them from doing what they have intended to do for more than a decade now. They are rising like the Phoenix, and I seriously doubt we will get in their way at this point in time since there is little concern and even less action from the people directly affected, that being the whole of the European Union and NATO. They are running scared and are paralyzed by political inaction.
And so it goes...
From Jane’s
“Based on the same basic airframe of the MiG-23, but features a revised nose design (known as platypus). This was initially introduced on the MiG-23B and the nose replaces the radar with a Laser Rangefinder and Marked-Target Seeker (LRMTS).”
nice post....i’m sorta ambivalent on this situation over there that caught me by surprise and of which I m fairly ignorant
nice synopsis
this reminds me so much of growing up in the CW
The next president Putin will slap around just as Stalin slapped around FDR.
What would stop Putin dead in his tracks would be an all-out assault on Iran. It would be a tough sell domestically, but it would take away one of the wild cards he's been counting on.
