You need to get a grip and find out what is really happening. Saakashvili is on the verge of being ousted...Georgians don’t like him either.

Since when did just about everyone here become a puppet of the international pimp George Soros?

"This one is even more serious...and Putin knows it and it is why he is acting now on the eve of Bush's admin,"

Bush and the Israelis could use some slack from the Russians in the event of an attack on Iran. Watch the muted language that comes out of the White House. We will call for talks, but will not deploy forces or use any threats of sanctions against anyone.

Sorry, I disagree. The implications are a lot broader than what they are to the local region...and Georgia has been our staunch ally in Iraq.

This is a gambit by Moscow and a test of the west. If we fail, they will be embolden and seek to further expand.

And no, we do not have a dog in this fight.

I agree. As much as I dislike Russia, our goal should be to help stop the fighting, not pick a side.

CORRECTION: And no, we do not have a dog in this fight.

I agree. As much as I dislike Russia's current government, our goal should be to help stop the fighting, not pick a side.

Yes, you know that oil line figures heavily into this gambit from Russia's standpoint.

“Let’s just send a few B-2s”

Well, at least it would finally prove just how useless they are against newer low frequency radars. We’d be out of 20 bombers, though.

Ok, you got me there, me wrong, but Abkhazia certainly is (majority even have Russian passports) and on a religious basis, being Orthodox aligns them (Ossetia)culturally with Russia.

Plus Georgia Attacked. Aggressors.

And the essential point applies, even though consistency in foreign policy is really not smart, if independence for Kosovo from Serbia is OK, then why not these two provinces if they choose Federation with Russia.

You need to get a grip and stop shilling for Putin. When our ally Georgia is being invaded by Russia the friend of our islamic enemies, I am on alert.

Orthodox can pray fervently that the fraticidal war will end quickly...

Amen - we Orthodox must pray...US state dept has been backing the wrong side for a long time now —— although I am unsure how Christian Sakashvili is... he has lots of Orthodox and Monarchist opposition in Georgia..I believe he has jailed some of his opposition as well..

International pimp Soros loves him but not the Georgian people...he has betrayed the ideals.

The scenario is as much akin to the Russian - Chechnyan as it is to Serbia.

What we did in Serbia under Clinton was wrong. Plain and simple. And this is wrong, plain and simple.

But there is the added weight of an actual invasion going on here, and an invasion of our ally...who happens to be on the tail end of a huge oil pipeline.

Putin and his cronies are figuring we do not have the stomach to oppose it. I pray we prove them wrong by providing enough logisitical, material, and G2 support to Georgia to bloody their nose badly.

With that I agree. Russia should withdraw. I don't want a war in Georgia, and even less want us being sucked in. A ceasefire and withdrawal has to be the goal.

And from Georgia’s point too, since they stand to lose a lot of cash if the pipeline’s routes transverse Abkhazia and Ossetia, since the contracts with American companies would be useless then.

We had no good reason for a close alliance to Georgia in the first place beyond a naive wish to expend our "benign" hegemony.

Moreover, if independence was so good for the Kosovars that we supported their breakaway from Serbia, what right have we to object if the South Ossetians want independence from Georgia? Our State Department showed the way in their handling of Kosovo. The first separatist state has just followed their lead.

...so, then, by that logic, independence for Chechnya would be okay too then? Nope.

It was wrong with Serbia...it is wrong here. But there was no physical invasion of Serbia. There is here.

//There is only one way they get home as a fighting force, and that would be with massive US assistance//

I dont see how the Turks could/will oppose that.

Oh...our hegemony is it? What absolute Bravo Sierra.

What we did in Serbia was WRONG, and many on these boards voiced it then. This is equally wrong...but with one huge differnce. We did not invde Serbia with an army and Russia is invading Georgia.

It has nothing to do with the seperatists...it is a Sudetenland style gambit by the russians and we and Europe would be fools to allow it to go with out significant oppostions in an attempt to help Georgia bloodt the Near's nose and stall their attmpt.

Good point.

But out of nowhere seemingly a nasty little war erupts.

And Dick Dale’s Pipeline keeps playing through my head.
