Voting is an immense privilege.
That is why I am concerned about a new development that could deny this freedom to many Americans. As a longtime friend of labor unions, I must raise my voice against pending legislation I see as a disturbing and undemocratic overreach not in the interest of either management or labor.
The legislation is called the Employee Free Choice Act, and I am sad to say it runs counter to ideals that were once at the core of the labor movement. Instead of providing a voice for the unheard, EFCA risks silencing those who would speak.
Some of the most respected Democratic members of Congress -- including Reps. Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, George Miller and Pete Stark of California, and Barney Frank of Massachusetts -- have advised that workers in developing countries such as Mexico insist on the secret ballot when voting as to whether or not their workplaces should have a union. We should have no less for employees in our country.

Dear George,
Your Party respects NOTHING. They haven't in many, many years.
Just more of the same. Left-wing thuggery and control. Something typical socialist libs should be exposed for....as if we did not already understand the organized crime and mob-tactics that unions are managed by.
George McGovern should realize that his party has moved to the left of him and that they have no interest in the freedom of the working class.
Imagine how %^&ked up the rat party is that mcgovern is on the right in its ranks?
This bill may just kill off unions. Very, very bad bill.
Funny you should mention unions, wholly owned subsidiaries of the Democrat Party.
OpenSecrets.org has chronicled the top 100 political givers from 1989-2008. The top 16 appear below. After the group’s name and cumulative dollars donated, the first percentage is donations to Democrats, the second percentage to Republicans.
One union actually gave 9 percent of its contributions to Republicans. It’s probably been called on the carpet for its apostasy.
