Cars built in the last 15 years or so... you CAN’T tune up. The computer systems in these cars do that Constantly.
Inflating tires, good Idea... any further increase in mileage, would only come if we could fill the tires with the HOT AIR coming from the LIBERALS in Washington.
And we’re letting these IDIOTS run the country. God HELP US ALL!

“Why must there be a choice between encouraging conservation and increasing supply? The logical answer is obvious: Do both.”
Well said. The problem is we haven’t been doing either.

Pelosi, Reid and Obama know the solutions but because they're in debt to the environmental extremist they will never allow a vote on expanded drilling or nuclear power.
Obama is no different than Pelosi and if Americans don't wake up real soon they may elect Obama and be paying $10 a gallon by the end of his 1st and probably last term.

Once again, the one word I never see in any of these stories is “WEIGHT”. The typical small car of 1965 was a thousand pounds lighter than today’s typical small car, which is inexcusable in our present age of miracle materials. Honda Civics and Accords and cars of similar size should weigh 1300 - 1800 lbs.

Charles Krauthammer is completely wrong here. We can’t drill our way out of this problem.

First, yes we can "drill our way out of this crisis". There isn't a shortage at this time, but there's an overabundance of leverage in the hands of foreign entities that do not like the United States. We lack local control. Also, the value of the dollar, thanks in good part to the fed, DOES have an influence on the price of goods bought from foreign sources. Those goods include oil.
I also don't believe in mandatory conservation as dictated by the government. The CAFE standards were a complete flop, as people moved to trucks and SUV's to replace the utility of the former full-sized station wagon. And the 55 mph speed limit was a complete joke. If anything, we ought to be able to travel at over 100 mph in individual cars by now. The technology is certainly there.

People will buy as much gas as they can afford to. This is the flaw with “encouraging” conservation.

The Democrats’ approach is to keep the price of gasoline and diesel going up, while dangling the prospect of “alternative energy”.

Do everything. Wind and solar. A tire gauge in every mailbox. Hell, a team of oxen for every family (to pull their gasoline-drained SUVs). The consensus in the country, logically unassailable and politically unbeatable, is to do everything possible to both increase supply and reduce demand, because we have a problem that's been killing our economy and threatening our national security. And no one measure is sufficient.THAT I agree with.
