Big-name Democrats don't know if John Edwards really has a love child - but some think he's definitely got a problem.
For two weeks since renewed but unproven reports that he fathered an illegitimate daughter appeared in the National Enquirer, Edwards has kept silent other than to denounce "tabloid trash."
Bad move, party pros say: His role at the Democratic convention, just 17 days away - and his political future - are now in peril.
"The political consequences of leaving something like this unattended are fairly severe," said ex-Democratic National Committee Chairman Don Fowler.
"If no response is made, it festers - and the people who make decisions about opportunities to make speeches, or be on the ticket, or be in the cabinet, or play any significant role politically, have to take these things into consideration," he told the Daily News.
The Enquirer story, though uncorroborated by others, has been seen by millions on political blogs and is joke fodder for Jay Leno.
"The story has taken on a life of its own - regardless of what the underlying facts may or may not be," said Democratic consultant Chris Lehane.

Edwards is hiding in the other America where the news didn’t break yet.
I heard he has been mourning the death of his political career.
The Pubs are pretty dumb to let this out before the assclown was certified as VP candidate.
National Enquirer is a democrat tool. Pubbies have no say when it publishes, or for that matter, when Edwards tomcats around in LA and gets caught.

If this is true, I can’t imagine how painful it would be for Mrs. Edwards to be on exhibit at the democratic national convention as yet another example of a tragic supportive spouse (Clinton, Spitzer, McGreevey, Craig, Giuliani, etc.).

Heck, it'll be fun to watch, even if it spells the end of your political career and fraud of a marriage. In the very short term, you'll still have a chance at the Obama/Edwards VP ticket.
He’s busted. It’s all true. What is he supposed to say about it? Might as well clam up and take the Gary Condit approach. What’s to lose?
It wasn't under the "pubs" control. Even If it was, and Edwards did get the VP nod, it would be flatly denied anyways, ignored completely by MSM until after the election.
Besides, as we seen with Clinton, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker with Democrat voters. Clinton would have stayed in power had he not been caught lying about it to a grand jury. It wasn’t the BJ’s from Monica that sunk him, it was the lying under oath that did him in.
I’ve been hearing and reading about the lack of MSM reporting on Edwards’ possible infidelity, but I don’t see how it’s a good idea to push for his public response considering his wife’s health. If he is guilty of infidelity and is duly excluded from future public office without fanfare, that works for me.
Hounding him will naturally give Mrs. Edwards more stress to deal with, and she probably is having a difficult enough time as it is. I despise much of her politics, but a woman dying of cancer shouldn’t have to deal with a media frenzy over a possible mistress and illegitimate child.
What about suborning perjury? Clearly obvious in the affidavit offered by Monica to the much maligned Linda Tripp.
It is a shame, but not of the VRWC making - just a fact of her life. Like so many other women who suck up to the creeps of the Democrap camp, they get butchered by their own “lovies.”

And Edwards would be almost guarantied the Democrat vote for VP. You never know, he just might be convinced to cut his wiener off if it means Obama/Edwards have a chance. :o)
