Erin Brockovich: Gardasil (the case against Merck's HPV vaccine)
The Brockovich Report ^ | August 6, 2008 | Erin Brockovich

Posted on 08/07/2008 7:13:47 AM PDT by weegee

We have been spending our days getting all our ducks armed for bear and in a row--all of our anti-Gardasil ducks, that is. From checking my various areas on the internet, to finding moderators to listening to the tragic and painful stories of victims of the Gardasil vaccine, it has been a very busy time for me and my team.

Gardasil, as you should know by now, is an HPV vaccine sold by Merc, a vaccine with a flawed marketing campaign targeting young girls. The premise is that the vaccine will protect young girls from cervical cancer, as well as a couple of varieties of HPV. But the vaccine is NOT a cancer preventative, and it has not been thoroughly tested. Not only does Gardasil not protect everyone, it does not prevent all types of cervical cancer. According to current science, there are fifteen types of HPV associated with cervical cancer but Gardasil only counters HPV types 16 and 18. The vaccine requires three doses to start and scientists don't even know how frequently boosters will be needed. They don't know because they did not adequately research this before putting the vaccine out on the market using our young girls as guinea pigs.

Merc was even pushing to have this untried vaccine REQUIRED by states. Governer Perry of Texas--who bypassed the state legislation with an executive order--has ties to Merck. Mike Toomey, Perry’s former chief of staff is one of the drug company’s three lobbyists in Texas. The governor also received $6,000 from Merck’s political action committee during his re-election campaign. "Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12." As a mother, should I have to sign a waver to protect my daughter from having a potentially dangerous vaccine forced on her?

What makes this vaccine so terrible? It's not just the fear that some parents have that administering a vaccine against stds to nine year olds will encourage sexual activity. The concern is based on much more concrete issues than that. 7195 of them, in fact.

The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) now has 7195 individual adverse reactions listed--and as it is a database not everyone knows about, not all of the adverse reactions are being reported. The Centers for Disease Control report over 9,000 adverse reactions for Gardasil. There is a rising total of deaths connected with the administration of this vaccine; as well as have been reports of seizure activity, tingling, numbness and loss of sensation in the fingers and limbs. There is serious question about girls initially having short-term health problems associated with getting this vaccine that could turn into long-term neurological or immune system disorders; and there is serious question about administering this vaccine at the same time as others.

Gardasil is a vaccine developed by Merck to prevent Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). HPV is known to cause cervical cancer. Although Merck has claimed that Gardasil has no significant side effects, reports filed with the FDA suggest otherwise.

The FDA Vaccine Adverse Effect Reporting System has more than 8,000 incidents associated with Gardasil. The most serious complications reported include death and the development of blood clots.

If you or a loved suffered a serious adverse event, such as death, disability or blood clot following the administration of Gardasil, please contact me erin@brockovich.com. I will have one of our staff of experienced attorneys review your claim to advise you about your rights.

Rick Perry is a RINO Republican. He was a Democrat in the era of Reagan. All of the candidates who got face time in the last governor’s race were (at least “former”) Democrats.

Do you have any evidence which shows that anything said in this article is untrue?

First, I'm not necessarily of fan of Merck, nor do I have any vested interest in the vaccine.

It's not that there may be anything untrue, but there is no context for the statements made. Given the large population of people who've already received the vaccine, one has to ask, "how many deaths and serious adverse events have occurred, and is that number statistically significant?"

Judging from the FDA's own site, only 6% of the events reported to date, are considered serious. Every late-stage clinical trial will have its share of AEs and SAEs, but that doesn't necessarily mean the drug is without merit. It's certainly possible, though unfortunate, that the deaths were a result of some rare allergic reaction.

The law firm running this ad doesn't share the context however, so to me, it looks like they're just chasing ambulances and trying to get some settlement with Merck.

For many years, I complained about the fact that the CDC admitted that condoms don’t stop the spread of HPV, yet HPV (via cervical cancer) was killing thousands of American women every year.

But publicizing that fact would have gotten in the way of the Condom Campaign, so the CDC quietly let the disease spread.

When the vaccines came out, it allowed the government agencies to suddenly address this issue—since they could do it in a way that wouldn’t get in the way of The Message (”Do whatever you want; just use a condom.”)

Politicians with connections to Merck pushed through attempts to REQUIRE girls to take it. That’s a lot of sales. The question is whether there was corruption involved in the decision and why the legislature was not permitted an opportunity to debate the measure.

Rick Perry is one of the biggest scumbags in politics today.

It’s been awhile since I taught sex ed, and so I haven’t kept up with the newest information. Are you saying that you can get a genital infection, which could lead to cervical cancer without sexual contact? If that’s what you’re saying can you please give me a reference so I can read it and be up to date on the newest info?

My daughter’s best friend fainted when she was injected with this vaccine. My daughter has not been vaccinated and has no plans to have the injections.

We are told that everyone should get the vaccine “because if it saves one life it’ll be worth it”. Of course if taking it kills someone, well that’s just a small percent of the population...

Yeah, that was another big shock to my students, when I explained that condoms didn’t prevent HPV.

It's not what is in the article, it is what is left out.

~9000 adverse reactions, some of them serious, but the article leads you to believe all were serious, and doesn't mention how many total doses those ~9000 reactions are out of.

I'm willing to bet most nuts are far, far more deadly to a higher percentage of people than this drug. Most things will produce an adverse reaction in at least some people.

Just reading this article you would think that the drug hadn't gone through the process of getting FDA approval that takes years and extensive trials. The author just ignores that and presents a subjective opinion that not enough testing was done and that our daughters are being used as guinea pigs.

I don't see how you can take a critical look at this article and say that it wasn't written to intentionally mislead people rather than to help them make an informed decision about the drug.

>If you took the experimental Polio vaccine in the 1950s or 1960s, there is a strong chance you were exposed to a cancer-causing monkey virus, spread from the monkey kidneys used to grow the vaccine. Know anyone with MS or a weird cancer in their 40s or 50s? Yeah, look around... <

While I’m not sorry to have escaped polio, it’s jarring to see how many people I know who are battling or who have died from cancer in this age group. I’m going to a memorial service this afternoon :^(

The facts of the case, and the movie it was based off of, like it or not are about a corporation who knowingly poisoned innocent people and then tried to cover it up. That’s wrong, period. Had nothing to do with white guys or black guys, or christians or athiests.

I'm really getting sick of the knee-jerk reactions freepers have been having when it comes to the few things liberals are right about. It's like the people who cheer on China simply because of the libs supporting Tibetans. Intellectual laziness at its finest.

From the news stories Edwards seems to have “fathered” successfully, haven’t heard about any mini-Hulks. Maybe it’s the hair.
