PETA's beheading ad spurned

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, Man. — An animal rights group has tried – and failed – to run a newspaper ad comparing the beheading of a passenger on a Greyhound bus last week to the treatment of animals by the meat industry.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, said on its website it would run the ad in the Portage la Prairie Daily Graphic.

However, city editor Tara Seel said the newspaper had no intention of running the ad, which uses imagery of “an innocent victim's throat” being cut, in reference to the slaughter of cows, chickens and pigs on factory farms.

“His struggles and cries are ignored ... the man with the knife shows no emotion ... the victim is slaughtered and his head cut off ... his flesh is eaten,” reads the ad, which is posted on the website.

>> Scary how many people were on that bus, yet no one attempted to save this poor man.

> The good folks on Flight 93 had at least time to plan; the folks aboard the Greyhound bus had, well, a psychopath exploding in their midst with no warning.

To be sure: taking a knife from a Bad Guy is a very difficult thing to do. You can count upon getting cut in the process. At the very least.

The reality is that anyone intervening would have gotten hurt.

I don’t excuse the cowardice of those on board the bus: they should have tried, and they may have been able to do something. There are many worse things in life than getting hurt. However our society has conditioned us to place personal safety above all else.

Barney the Purple Dinosaur says so. It is a selfish wat to live life.

That is wrong. They should have tried. Instead they live with the certain knowledge that they did nothing, and a man is dead as a result.

I would not want that on my conscience. That is certainly worse than getting hurt. A selfish way to live.

I listen to CFTR 680 AM out of Toronto, mainly for the traffic reports as I do deliveries to Toronto. Their reporting has ticked me off so many times that I've fantasied about creating a ihatecftr.com web page just to highlight their ignorant and inane reporting.

Today they went beyond the limit I could endure and I was compelled to call them and give them what-for.

They reported on this story...'Hated' church group to protest Tim McLean funeral. The Phelps bunch from the Westboro "Baptist Church" plans to picket this poor fellows funeral. The reporter for CFTR had the audacity to refer to the Phelps as a "right wing" group. I called and left a message attempting to straighten them out and let them know that I felt personally insulted by their characterization of these wackos as being "right-wing".

After, as I settled down somewhat, I wondered why they did it and could only come to the conclusion that they actually believe that "right wingers"/conservatives hate homosexuals just as does the Phelps bunch.

They are creating/perpetuating a stereotype about us that reflects their hate of us and is designed to instill hate for us in their listeners minds.

Got the number for the Ontario HRC?

I’m assuming that after a few slashed the man was probably a goner. The intervention should happen to make sure that none of the other passengers are killed.

Fred Phelps is a DEMOCRAT and has run for office as a DEMOCRAT several times. At least at one point in modern times, he was a friend of Al Gore until it became politically uncomfortable for Al Gore to be associated with Phelps.

Phelps opposes the war in Iraq.

The homosexual issue and the “religion” thing are what make his liberal critics call him a “right winger”. Really his purpose seems to be to slur everyone who is a Christian activist or openly opposes the homosexual agenda. No one on the right is saying the things that Phelps’ family cult says.

There is a guy here who does the news reports on the weekend.

One Sunday last year, I became so angry at the leftist tilt he was giving the news, I actually got into a fight with him on the phone.

It didn’t change him of course, but it sure felt good.
