McCain gets loud welcome at Sturgis bike rally (prefers Harley roars to Berliner cheers)

STURGIS, S.D. - Thousands of motorcyclists greeted Republican presidential candidate John McCain with an approving roar Monday as he sought blue-collar and heartland support by visiting a giant motorcycle rally.

"As you may know, not long ago a couple hundred thousand Berliners made a lot of noise for my opponent. I'll take the roar of 50,000 Harleys any day," McCain said, referring to Democrat Barack Obama's recent visit to the German capital.

McCain played to a crowd that paused for a veterans salute. He criticized Obama for supporting a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq while opposing efforts to reduce record-high energy prices.

"My opponent wants to set a date to come home. I want us to come home with victory and honor so we will never go back again," the Arizona senator said.

McCain also criticized Congress for adjourning for a five-week recess without approving a new energy plan.

"Tell em' to come back and get to work," McCain said, yelling into the microphone. "When I'm president of the United States, I'm not going to let them go on vacation. They're gonna become energy independent."

Since you claim you are anti-appeasement, wouldn’t you rather see McCain win than Obama? Since one of these two will win, which one would you rather see win?

Why a conservative would waste a good vote on McCain is beyond me.

I can see that. The answer is simple. To me, conservatism has a lot to do with common sense, and being mature enough to make hard choices, even when they don't feeeeeel good. A rational acceptance of reality is also helpful. With those things in mind, the choice is amazingly easy to make.

The guy is going to get his clocked cleaned by Obambi seven ways to Sunday

You hope he does. You betray yourself though. You want to be "liberated" from making a real choice, so you convince yourself it's a fait accompli. That way, you can vote for what makes you feel good, with no regard for consequences. Problem for you is that McCain and Obama are in a tight race, and our votes WILL have consequences. But you give yourself away by saying you believe it's ok to vote for a nobody because the outcome is already certain. No--it isn't. You're not off the hook. Sorry.

At least one will know that one's vote registered on the meter as being a Conservative, and not a liberal Republican.

Like most third party voters, you are choosing to do what feels good to you, rather than make a substantive choice.

You are not worried about it (by your words at least) but over in the Eisenhower Building, I can assure you they are certainly worried about independent Conservatives

They may be worried about the 3-5% that may vote for a loser party. That makes sense. They need all the votes they can get. Again you betray yourself. They are worried about this tiny voting block because it's a tight race, despite your delusions to the contrary. But no one is worried about a third party winning, because it's not going to happen.

It's going to be a tight race. Every vote counts. In my view, real conservatives will have the guts to make the right choice. Those who would rather feel good and eat candy can sit at the kids' table while the adults eat their vegetables. Nothing new here.

Who is this magical 3’rd Party Conservative that you speak of? Aren’t you supporting that defeatist Bob Barr?

Since my choice is not limited to either of these two, I will not chose, they are both LIBERALS and mark my word, this country is going to go down the tubes with either of them at the helm.

90% of Free Republic felt this way six months ago. I did not change. Did FR? Did Scarface?

I wont indulge in situation-ethics-based mental mission creep, out of fear of Obama, lying sack of ____ he is himself.

Hey bud—non illegimati carborundum, OK?

Some people can’t handle the truth. It is so much easier to join the RINO bandwagon and justify it because there is a bogeyman in the race. You know, like in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004. So many bogeymen, so little time.

No one wants to confront the fact that both Obama and McCain are for amnesty and for cap and trade. Those two things together will destroy this nation. All else will become incidental.

But, hey, that requires thought and analysis, and heart searching. And courage to oppose the headlong mass of the lemmings.

Congress will be the only thing on earth that can restrain either of these two numbnuts. That’s where my efforts will lie and that’s where our only hope remains. And it isn’t looking too good there, either.

Like in the case of Ahnold in California, there will be wailing and knashing of teeth here aplenty when Juan McCain reveals his inner maverick should he become President.

A tiger does not change his stripes.

Oh, and one other thing. You are right about the POW/MIA issue. We know we left 600 POWs behind in 1973. They were held as insurance for the $ 4 billion in reparations the North Vietnamese demanded to end the war. Nixon and Kissinger could not get that approved by Congress, so they were kept by North Vietnam, There were 14,000 reported sightings of these men in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, reports of their call signs marked in the ground, trees, etc.

But hey, with multi-million dollar deals in the balance, McCain had to quash the peristence of the POW/MIA families.
He and his good friend, the traitor John Kerry, made short work of that. And they call Obama the Manchurian Candidate.

Well, facts are facts. We’ll be called loons, nuts, Obama supporters, kooks,Commie lovers, whatever—but you know, who gives fig? Let’s all vote for the Republican who almost defected to the Dems in 2001. You know, the one that pushed for unlimited amnesty, not once, but twice in 2007. The one who is on record as telling Hispanics comprehensive immigration reform” (unlimited amnesty and chain migration) will be done in his first 100 days in office. That one.

I can’t play the support-the-RINO-who-is-really-a-Liberal-Democrat game anymore.

90% of Free Republic felt this way six months ago.

That was before all the non-conservative yet Republican trolls moved in, believing that Republican and conservative are inseparable, and thus, if you don't kowtow to them, you are not conservative.

For me, it is, much like drinking beer, i.e. the process of elimination. I have already eliminated both Scarface and Osama as recipients of my vote.

I am open to the conservative options, yes, in the race who are getting ballot qualified as we speak, raising money, what not, as alternatives to the two liberals running.

PS What's it like voting for a RINO? Is it kind of a strange feeling? I would imagine it to be rather funky.

This doesn’t answer my question. Since either Obama or McCain will win, which one would you rather see win? Why are you afraid to answer this simple question?

Let's see. An Obama win is like getting strangled by an anaconda, while a McCain win is like getting infected with AIDS in a third-world rathole.

Either way, you are totally screwed.

I do not prefer either of those liberals who will ruin this country, with Mass-Amnesty for starters.

That is the answer I will give.

It is not the answer you want.

It is the answer you will get.

Come talk to me if my state only ends up having a choice Electors for Democrat and Electors for Republican on the ballot in November.
