Washington, Aug 3 - House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosis (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence.
In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (A Call to Action on American Energy), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Fridays action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going.
Its not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering, Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. Weve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.
We realize not everyone can be in Washington next week. But if you can be, we ask that you come to the Capitol, join our colleagues, and lend your voice, beginning this Monday at 10:00 am, the GOP leaders wrote. If you cant be in Washington, we ask that you contribute to the cause in other ways such as spreading the word among your constituents, writing an op-ed for your local newspaper, or taking our all of the above energy message to your local airwaves.
Republicans stand with the American people. We share their passion and determination for energy independence, and weve pledged to fight boldly until Congress heeds their will, Boehner and Blunt concluded.
Seems to me that these folks need to be home fundraising. This is a powerful issue, but I don’t think it is powerful enough to move the tide, especially if our teetering house members can’t afford to advertise later on what they are doing now because, you know, the attention span of the average american is really short. Right
The plan is for reps to come in and out.
Some will go to DC.. then go back to their districts and back again.
This way we can keep the pressure on the Dems every day.
Everyone will have a chance to be in their districts.
This is much more powerful than fundraising.
All it will take is...
Lawyers, guns, and money!
(rest in peace, Warren)
Someone needs to make a political video of Pelosi and the Dems walking out, shutting off the lights, turning off the cameras, and refusing to talk.
between each of those scenes would be the transition words “NO LIGHTS” “NO CAMERAS” “NO ACTION”.
I plan to give my RAT-idiot Rep. Klein an earful while he’s here on vacation...same for his tribesmen Wasserman-Schultz, Wexluh and Assy Hastings (aka Buckwheat). This will be Phone Fun for a few days.
The statement was supposedly in GWB's weekly address to the nation.
Are you talking about my silly screenname? I ended up with that because when I was trying to register, none of the names would take and I was getting aggravated. So, I threw that one in thinking that surely no one would have taken THAT one. But, I also finally realized that FR (at the time, I'm not sure about now--it's been 10 years, I think) wouldn't take e-mail addresses from web-based e-mail addresses. So, I changed my e-mail address and left the stupid screenname there. Of course, it took it. So, there's the story. :-)
I used to stalk WZ and it turned into a wonderful gift that kept on giving. If you are a fan you should go read about some of my WZ experiences on My Blog
Speaking of brushes with fame, and germane to the thread, when calling various news organizations trying to keep the GOP House story alive, who should answer the phone but Brian Wilson!? No, not the Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys; Brian Wilson from Fox news. It surprised me but I rolled with it. Brian Wilson is as nice as he seems. He gave me a good 3-5 minutes of discussion before I released him from captivity. I told him how frustrated I was with the energy situation and the uneven reporting in general. He told me there were problems covering the story but they were doing their best. He was cool. Getting through to him kept me stoked and I was able to work the phone and email a lot longer just on the adrenaline rush from having Brian Wilson answer the phone. Most people don't know who he is but it gave me a huge thrill.
It reminded me of meeting Sam Brownback in the hall way on an Eighth Grade DC trip and I acted like I had Beatlemania. The kids thought I was crazy to go practically speechless over someone they had never heard of.
It’s now in the Loft-http://www.gopusa.com/theloft/?p=755.
r they still there? any coverage?
