Off-duty deputy killed in shooting
L.A. Daily News ^

Authorities are investigating the shooting death of an off-duty sheriff's deputy at sunrise today in the gang-ridden Cypress Park area of Los Angeles, authorities said.

Police chief William Bratton and sheriff Lee Baca rushed to the scene, and Baca called this "a difficult day."

Baca said "we know that the public at large is grieving the loss of a deputy sheriff, a new deputy sheriff who was in the department for just two years, working at our central jail."

The name of the slain deputy sheriff has not been released, although neighbors told Los Angeles station KNX that the victim's mother and wife were seen standing over the deputy's body in the street.

KNX radio reported that witnesses heard five gunshots, and a car speeding by.

The deputy was reportedly a resident in the 3400 block of Thorpe Avenue, and may have been shot as he was going to work.

The shooting occurred near Isabel Avenue, a notorious hotbed of gang activity and murders just north of the Los Angeles River near the Pasadena (110) Freeway. The crime scene is about three miles from the Men's Central Jail.

The way things are going, it could very well be that somebody just decided to kill someone.

According to KCBS, the officer was gunned down in front of his house at 5:40 am.

That doesn't seem like a random event to me.

It reads like a gang hit.

The greatest fear of LEO’s for their family. I am sure to some people it is funny, not me.

Since the “Deputy” was apparently a jailer, one wonders if he was even armed? Generally guns are not allowed in jails, except for the guys in the “towers” or on the “walls”, if any.
For that matter, can LA County deputies carry while off duty in the City of Angels?

My late father and late father-in -law did 24/7. My dad was a retired L.A.Co. Deputy Sheriff for 30 years and my late father-in-law was a City Police Captain. Two of the finest men that ever walked this earth. Oh, and they never ate donuts.

They are required to carry while in uniform, but not in “No Firearm” jail areas, and they are permitted to carry in civilian clothes.

My question is...why do people NOT GET OUT of the GHETTO???

Especially a cop, Why? You can see what it does to people in your job every day, so why stay where the odds of your family or you getting killed are so great???

I never have understood that.

If he works at the central jail, just maybe some gang banger there ordered his hit.

This could have been ordered from inside the jail or a random killing if he was wearing his uniform...

Here in Orlando we recently had three yutes get offed in an apartment complex. Not entirely bad news as *they* were all bad news.

However, OPD has said they have run into a brick wall concerning the investigation as they can’t find anyone to give them any information. They have also said they have responded hundreds of times just to this one complex since the beginning of January.

I feel that if the community is not going to support the cops and rid THEMSELVES of these dregs, the cops should just stop responding to calls in the affected area. My guess is this “Stop Snitching” crap would go away very quickly.

“My question is...why do people NOT GET OUT of the GHETTO??”

One newscast said he had moved back to his parents’ house while dealing with a divorce. Besides, there are now illegal alien gangs all over LA and Orange County so it’s not all that easy to get away from crime. One of Open Borders Bush’s gifts to the American people of southern California.
