Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (Movie) is not just a bad movie, it is blatently racist. It teaches little white girls that black people think it is ok to steal (Kit asks a black doctor point blank if it is ok to steal from rich people - he simply says "yes"). The overall theme of the movie is - steal from the rich unless they are your friends. But stealing from poor people who are your friends is bad. The movie creates nuances pertaining to when it is ok for white people to steal. However, the movie gives the overall impression that blacks are just expected steal - no real moral nuance given. Sad
Pretty much a made for TV movie and not as good as the other DVD releases. Not sure what Chris O'Donnell was thinking when he took the part. His career must be tanking.
It's how the left hijacks the free market.
...but only because people let it.
teaches little white girls that black people think it is ok to steal (Kit asks a black doctor point blank if it is ok to steal from rich people - he simply says "yes").then I seriously doubt what you're saying.
Wow. I didn’t come away with that impression at all. I did talk with my dd about the “sometimes it’s okay to steal” line, but never saw any racism in it. It was the black doctor who was working in the hobo camp where most of the people were white.
I’m reading comments from others who did not see the racism that you report, however I would suspect that it is more a case of stereotyping than racism, if you use the actual definition of racism.
“Free Willy”: It is OK to steal a whale that does not belong to you.
“Lawless”: My husband and I just watched this one last night on DVD. In this movie it is OK to steal nearly all of the world's diamonds, nearly through the entire world into a financial crisis, and have the head of the insurance company commit suicide, so that leading lady can use the money to help the poor.
You’re way overplaying the racist card.
A doctor is a black stereotype?
My post was questioning your use of the term racism, when it sounded like what you saw was stereotyping instead. There is a big difference.
LOL!
Watch the movie. See for yourself.
I saw the movie (and thought it was very good).
There is a theme about ‘robbing from the rich to give to the poor,” and the conundrum that can be, during the Depression and all. The mobile librarian loans “Robin Hood” to someone with that concern.
However, the good guys in the movie are the ones who do not steal, but humble themselves, work hard, take in boarders, wear flour sack dresses, sell eggs, and still help others.
The bad guys are the thieves.
At the end, one of the bad guys realizes there is nothing moral about what she is doing, and repents.
So I think the synopsis this article provides is way off the mark.
As to racism, I was impressed with the fact that there was a black doctor at all. Also, he was the only one who would take care of people in the hobo camp, who were mostly white. There is, furthermore, a very sympathetic black child character throughout the movie, and strong interracial relationships.
This “review” is way off.
I have an idea.
You know, there was just a kid’s play in Japan, where ALL the girls got to play Snow White, to keep from hurt feelings.
We should have a movie populated by nothing by black doctors.
Okay, I’m convinced. It is a racist movie and I will picket my local theater in hopes of saving the young generation from being turned into White Supremacists by being exposed to this cruel and blatant racist propaganda.
She joined the gang to steal from the rich and give to the poor. She repented for keeping the loot, not for stealing. I think you missed the entire moral point of the movie. The thieves were caught and punished because they kept the loot. The black doctor hobo was put in the movie as a moral character - to give the justification for stealing. Why did they pick a black man for a one line role about stealing?
This is a severe case of cranial-recto inversion.
Liberals are nothing if not chronically ironic - intended actions that create the opposite in effect. It can be subtle in the case of Hollywood (Jar Jar Binks, this movie, etc) or it can be pretty harsh when put in practice(creating policies meant to feed the Russian people while in effect causing mass starvation).
