The Greyhound bus left Edmonton at one minute past midnight on Wednesday morning, bound for a destination located two provinces, 20 hours and more than 1,300 kilometres away. More than 30 passengers were aboard Route 1628 including a pair of French tourists, a six year-old boy, and an elderly woman with her daughter. Among them was an aboriginal man in his early twenties, listening to headphones and headed home to Winnipeg. Through the day and into the evening, the bus pushed along the Trans-Canada -- through Lloydminister, Saskatoon and Gilbert Plains - as passengers read books, listened to music and watched TV. Somewhere around Brandon, nearly 18 hours into the trip, a new passenger boarded the bus. He was bald, aged about 40, wearing sunglasses, approximately six feet tall and 200 pounds. Witnesses say he stowed his luggage and sat at the front of the bus without speaking to anyone. About a half hour later, the bus stopped for a smoke break. The bald man stepped off for a cigarette and reportedly chatted calmly with a female passenger.

Vince Weiguang Li, 40, is accused of second-degree murder.
I would’ve thought that it was impossible to behead and disembowel someone on the spur of the moment. Silly me.
...just a spur of the moment disembowel AND beheading...
He must have had a little practice :^
Note to the DA (or whatever you’re called up there): Unless Greyhound provided the weapon, the spur of the moment argument doesn’t hold water. Or did the perp do all this damage with a pocket knife?
No official release of the victim’s name either, though beleived to be Tim McClean of Winnipeg, described in the article as a 22 year old “aboringinal” man. R.I.P., Tim.
Amen. An armed passenger could have ended the horror show quickly.
"So the actual sentence might not be very different from what it would be for first degree."
Everyone feel better now?
NOT.
The victim was only a white male. If he was a woman or person of color, it might warrant first-degree charges.
Words fail...
If they're lenient, we can expect more of this.
In Canada & the US, are there no requirements for bus riding?...although not as stringent as air travel rules, doesn't anyone have authority to put passengers through a detection device?...(I think they would have found that huge killing knife :^ if they had.
Of course, in The Socialist Peoples Republic of Canada, the ONLY correct answer to such a crime is to BAN ALL KNIVES. Long live the Nanny/Police State (if only America could “see the light”)! /sarc
We had a crazy old man go crazy in our little burg 20 years ago, and when he was through shooting up two strip shopping centers and grocery stores-(where I shop), 6 people were dead-(including 2 police officers responding)- and countless wounded.
Oh...and he's still enjoying the largesse of the county system at the taxpayers benefit.
Personally, he's crazy like a fox.
This perp sound like that too.
Mew...the picture that came up with the article in your link is that of the victim.
I haven’t seen a really good pic of the perp yet.
Regards,
Hey Mew...just saw THIS link you posted. Now THAT looks like Li. (In the top pic.)
Regards,
That’s a picture of the victim not the perp.
"There was no rage in him... It was just like he was a robot or something."
When asked by Judge Pollack if he wanted a lawyer, Mr. Li said nothing, keeping his head down the entire time. However, when the judge asked him if he was exercising his right not to speak, Mr. Li reportedly nodded his head.
I think the guy was on drugs when he committed the murder.
His deadpan face when displaying his trophy on the bus does not match his display of shame (if that is what his silence and bowed head means) in court
