PORTLAND, Ore., July 30 (UPI) -- A Portland, Ore., WWII veteran helped chase off a gun-carrying robber with his cane, say police -- who nevertheless don't encourage the tactic. Art Iwasaki. 88, awoke from a nap Monday afternoon to find a masked man with a gun demanding money next to him. With help from his daughter, Stephanie Sakauye, 55, he managed to drive off the young robber and assist in a police search, the Portland Oregonian reported Wednesday.

Portland Oregon is inhabited by lots and lots of ideologically chosen people, i.e., liberals. How can crime come out of so many good intentioned "progressives"?
“a...WWII veteran helped chase off a gun-toting robber with his cane...”
he still has it. (hooooorah)
“Iwasaki” you say?
442nd Infantry ping?
“Go For Broke?”
A helluva man.
and what do they recommend....leting someone shoot you? Grampa needs to get a gun and use the cane for balance though.
Looks like he was.
And take no sh't either.
Too bad some bureaucratic desk jockey will charge him with violating the perps civil rights or having a deadly weapon without a license.
I get really sick and tired of law enforcement implying the heroes in stories like these did something wrong by defending themselves or others. The cops should be thankful this perp is off the streets, and this Veteran should get another medal.
Some one should give him a gun to go with the cane.
I agree, but wonder if in some of these instances the the police are just doing a CYA. If they gave the guy Bravos and some future citizen did the same and got injured, in the climate today, said citizen would sue everybody in sight, claiming that "the police said it was OK, so they are responsible."
More than likely, but there was at least one other unit with Americans of Japanese ancestry in WWII, the 442 was the most famous however, they proved their worth, and were one of the most decorated units in the War. Hurray for him regardless of which unit he served in. Still standing up for his rights not to be intimidated! More Americans with that kind of courage are needed!
Or a gun incorporated in the cane as was once legal in this country, but is no longer, thanks to liberal a**hats.
One and the same.
as one ol’ grunt to another, Currahee!
442nd Regimental Combat Team bump
He was in the 442nd. You the man, Art!
