that story was from minneapolis. i was flabbergasted by that one.

i am probably the biggest cop-apologist around here (because i am one) but could not justify that story. i will say that SWAT guys are simply the entry teams and are not responsible for the actual intel that leads to an entry.

that is up to the detectives/bosses who oversee the informants. they messed up big time.

Do the 'entry teams' get any information on what they are going in for? Any intel on the evidence and probably cause? I should hope that if they kick in someones door they took the time to find out who's dog they are about to shoot and whose kids they are about to point machineguns at and WHY.

If someone kicked in my door and shot my dogs without enough evidence for ONE SIMPLE ARREST... I might be some what sad. I went back and edited things out of the preceding sentence. I have great respect for police when they are 'protecting and serving'. If they start acting Gestapo they get as much respect as Gestapo.

What happens the first time four or five cops run into superior firepower while doing one of these no-knock raids and a jury finds the homeowner totally innocent?

So, zhey vere only followink ordehs, eh? Ze Kommandant says to raid zhis house and zhe svat team raids, no questions asked.

It's a common tactic to blame the informant for incorrect information, yet no one ever seems to investigate *before the raid* whether the informant's information is accurate or a lie.

Ok, you’re a cop, tell me why this situation warranted a swat team? The didn’t even know he was the mayor. Why, because they didn’t check, they didn’t check who owned the house, they didn’t check his prior criminal record, which is BLANK. How about the guy in Maryland they’ve charged with Murder for killing a cop breaking thru his front door at midnight. Seems a neighbor saw Japanese maples and thought they were pot plants. Again, a check would reveal no priors, surveillance would have revealed no usual visitors. But NO, a swat team hits the door at midnight… In that case a cop was killed for NO REASON. In this case two dogs were killed for NO REASON. Now I have an X father n law who is on a swat team, so I understand there is a need for them. But the excuse that EVERY raid has the potential of going wrong is no excuse for the military style raids that are occurring all over the country. I can tell you, when I hear something, I get up ARMED. My door bursts open and I’m shooting everything I’ve got. Why not, when the check shows no priors and surveillance shows nothing unusual, knock on the door and say, Police, I have a warrant. If you are worried about me flushing the toilet. Approach me as I walk out to my car in the moring with a UNIFORMED OFFICER. You’ll get nothing but “Yes Sir and NO Sir” responses from me. Kick my door down at midnight, and if I’ve been alerted by something, it’s a gun fight.

I just can’t comprehend what’s happening to our country….

If someone else - let’s say the neighbors - had done to these people what the authorities did, you wouldn’t waste a second trying to justify it. So what gives the police the right to do it? How exactly do citizens of the United States suddenly lose the right not to be treated like this?

It used to be one had to be a very serious bad guy to get handled the way some officers are treating traffic offenders - or, in this case, the perfectly innocent.

“But we didn’t know they were innocent.”
Yes we did; innocence is the presumption in this country. Remember?

Someone who can’t do his job without trampling on the rights of citizens ought to look for another job.
