We're already paying reparations in the form of affirmative action, welfare and myriad government programs that favor minorities over whites. Many view AA as reverse discrimination because if it isn't reparations then it's nothing but favoritism.

I actually have supported the idea of reparations for years. I think they should come up with a figure and let's just get it over with and pay up.

HOWEVER, once that is done the debt is PAID IN FULL, that means no more affirmative action, quotas and the like.

In the end it is a win win for the majority, the money is going to get spent, and get spent here at business the sell the goods urban folks like, so it will stay in the economy, and in most cases come directly back into our pockets. And we get rid of the government favoritism to boot.

Of course as weak as the Republicans have been we will be out the money and still have the laws on the books...

Someone needs to ask Mr. Obama when the Democrats will officially acknowledge, apologize and pay reparations out of their own party coffers for their LEADING ROLE in maintaining and defending the institution of slavery, for birthing the KKK, for enacting and enforcing all of the Jim Crow legislation, and for opposing civil rights legislation throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Oh, and let's not forget the Copperhead Democrats who pressed Lincoln to end the fighting and negotiate an immediate peace with the Confederates.

Oh yeah, and while they're at it, I’m still waiting for the Democrats’ outraged condemnation of the still-sitting senior Democrat senator Robert Byrd, who not only filibustered AGAINST the civil rights act of 1964 in the Senate, and was an officer in the KKK, but who dared to go on national TV (in the 21st century, yet) to demonstrate his evolved racial understanding by graciously conceding that you don't have to be black to be a "nigger."

I recently made these points to a Democrat of my acquaintance, who responded with the standard "yeah but the Democrats have changed" -- as if America as a whole hasn't.

And Germans and Irish.

And Frisians.

I hate these racists masquerading as people. They focus on race as the central issue, slavery as the major sin of America and themselves as the way to end racism forever. I say we are not guilty.

I know that tension between "races" is alive and well in 2008, but I also know that constantly focusing on race only perpetuates racism. Slavery??? C'mon, America did away with slavery over 100 years ago and the civil rights struggles of the 1960s should have ended the false perceptions and inequality that remained. Instead, we have a small variety of race hustlers who continually harp on race, poor treatment, past sins and why the white people can't be trusted.

If a tenth of the effort was spent on the many, many examples of racial equality and harmony and the success of many individuals instead of on supposed racism, we would be a much better society and racism would go away.

Here’s my response to anyone who advocates reparations: What caliber would you like to have those paid in?

Hey it’s not us Native Americans who are whining about not getting reparations! I think he just threw us in so he didn’t look COMPLETELY racist! One branch of my tree is Lenape(Delaware) the other is Irish — who fought in the civil war to FREE the slaves. Likewise it was a REPUBLICAN president who FREED the slaves. Congress has greased the skid to reparations with their idiotic apology this week. IMHO, by making reparations, the dems are saying that the blacks aren’t smart enough or “good” enough to “make it” on their own without government assistance. Personally, I think that’s racist.

Let’s see. Obama also wants a global tax for the UN to ‘distribute’ to the world’s poor...to cost every man, woman and child in the US $2500. And he wants reparations for blacks and other ethnic minorities, too. Guess who’ll be paying for that. McCain needs to make a couple of ads and hammer this home to the voters, who should run screaming from the mere thought of Obama.

Wasn't anyone listening to Rev. Wright? Nation of Islam leaders i.e. Obama's mentors and friends?

Rev. Wrights' rants spoke to reparations. . .it is at least part - of the parcel - of Black Liberation Theology. It is included in Obama's promise for Change. . .just focus on Obama's words; his talk of Justice; what it means for America as a certain citizens now will have their opportunity to 'right past wrongs'. A balancing of the scales of Justice so that we may live peacefully in the Kingdom of Obama. . .

(As for 'deeds'; think Obama likes the Zimbabwe model. . .i.e. the deed to your farm; your land. . .A variation of Eminent Domain perhaps?. Whatever, time for 'change' and 'not small' change as yours becomes theirs.)

And yes, this IS the message that needs to be shared. . .
