[Snip]...Seattle became on Monday one of the first major American cities to discourage the use of paper and plastic shopping bags by requiring grocery, drug and convenience stores to charge 20 cents per bag. In a related action, the City Council also banned plastic foam food and drink containers. Both laws will go into effect Jan. 1.

Ahhhhhhhh, the lunacy. Nannyism seems to be stepping up the tempo....
Reminds me of the small New England town council that wanted to ban outside Christmas lights as their part to combat global warming.
L.A. is halting new fast food outlets in poor areas....
Time for the 'Not this shit again' post.
No plastic bags? What are you supposed to pick up the dog poo with if you don’t have a yard?
So, no paper or plastic...
So, you do your shopping in the suburbs, I guess.
Crap. I’m moving to Seattle in four days. I’ll be gone by the time all of this takes affect, but their current mayor is a real hardliner douchebag.
He’s also the guy who tried to ban carrying guns in the city.
All these regulations going to end up doing is driving people with the money to move to the suburbs out east, anyway. Or people with families.
How annoying is it to have a large family and have to pay an extra $2.00 for your groceries because some overzealous mayor goes on a powertrip?
I guess they could do the Costco thing, and use cardboard boxes. Not sure how that would be environmentally superior, though. I think its just about striking a pose.
I can begin to understand outlawing drink containers, though I disagree. However, what is the problem with outlawing foam food?
i was in ace hardware today.
guess wha’?
no plastic bags.
unbelievable.
Dumb shitz.
A lot more than that, many times you have to double up on plastic bags, also what about the little produce bags? I use those to wrap up packages of raw meat so they don’t bleed everywhere.
Freeekin Nanny Nazis
They want you to still use the bags. They just want 20 cents a piece for you to do so.
I’d almost like to protest this thing by carrying around my own plastic bags. In fact, I’ll write the Seattle councilman and say as much.
Haven’t you heard? You do it, gracefully, with one square of toilet paper.
You should. Don’t let them make a profit. I would also ask my grocer for a discount too since the bags are factored in to food prices.

Hehehe. Considering my dog's mess, that better be one enormous square of tp! ;)
These same nitwits will complain because too many trees are being cut to make paper.
Sounds to me that Seattle just got it in before LA got there similar bill in.
