President Bush began the day with a Cabinet meeting at the White House, discussing the need for domestic oil drilling and exploration. In a statement in the Rose Garden after the meeting, the President chided the Democrat Congress for dragging their feet on legislation that would lift the 30-year ban on offshore drilling. (Transcript)
Democratic leaders in Congress have refused to allow a vote. And now Congress is about to leave for its August recess without taking any action on this vital priority for the American people ....I've lifted the executive restrictions on offshore exploration. I've done my part. And that means the only thing now standing between the American people and these vast oil resources is the United States Congress. The sooner Congress lifts the ban, the sooner we can get this oil from the ocean floor to your gas tank.
This afternoon, President Bush was joined by First Lady Laura Bush for the signing ceremony of the Tom Lantos and Henry J. Hyde United States Global Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Reauthorization Act of 2008 in the East Room of the White House. (Transcript)
This was a bipartisan bill, so unfortunately the President had to be surrounded by a crowd of liberal camera-hogs like Senator Joe Plugs Biden during the ceremony.
I particularly want to thank the members of the House and the Senate who have joined us I want to thank Mike Leavitt; John Negroponte; Henrietta Fore; Mark Dybul And the bald-headed guy on the end -- (laughter) -- not you, Biden, but -- (laughter) [LOL!]
The President also signed the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 into law (Transcript)
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with the United Nations envoy to Somalia, Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, at the State Department in Washington

Ooooooooo....an absolutely wonderful Photo of the Day!
It’s always a joy to see our president when he is interacting
with children....he loves it and I think they do, too!
What an intelligent-looking and good-looking cabinet this
president has gathered around him!
Good for him wanting to open up off-shore drilling. It’s just the
smart thing to do...congress be darned! :D
President Bush is the Guinness Book of Records Champion of mirroring other people’s body language. In order for him to get his face down near Ruth’s, he had to almost slide off the chair. He does it instinctively and from genuine kindness.
LMAO!!
Wow. What a wonderful man. While his stance on immigration drives me nuts, I have never for a moment doubted that he was the only man for the job on 9-11.
It is really good to see him relaxed and happy. I had noted with some concern, that in a few of the other pictures from his “official duties”, he appears quite tired, even with Laura at his side... : \
Praying daily for this man.

Oh no! Now I feel bad! Let’s blame silent_jonny. LOL I have wavy hair and totally sympathize. How completely cool that he stopped for you all! That’s going into family lore forever.
BTW, you have gorgeous eyes.
No worries my friend! I thought the David Lee Roth reference was funny as all get out. Classic!
Good! I certainly didn’t want to hurt your feelings. :-)
I guess we don’t have to blame silent_jonny after all. LOL!!
Mrs. Harris, I sincerely apologize for making that comment.
You're right--you look nothing like David Lee Roth! LOL ;)
