Announcing the Fresno/Central Valley 7th Annual Rally and Tailgate Picnic Sept 5th and 6th, 2008
The Fresno/Central Valley Chapter cordially invites all FReepers and Lurkers in good standing to attend our 7th Annual Free Republic Rally and Tailgate Picnic to be held on September 5th and 6th, 2008.
Our rally will begin at 5:00 pm and end at 7:00 pm Friday night, September 5th, at the corner of Blackstone and Shaw in Fresno. Afterwards, the group will retire for dinner, refreshments and good fellowship at a nearby restaurant (time and place to be announced).
Our tailgate pot-luck picnic will be held this year at Kearney Park on Saturday, September 6th. We've reserved the "Tea House" picnic shelter for the full day. We'll probably start arriving about 1:00 pm and will BBQ and party till dark.
Kearney Park is located at 7160 W Kearney Blvd about six or seven miles west of downtown Fresno. You can get to the park by going west on highway 180 (Whites Bridge Rd to Grantland Ave then south to Kearney) or by taking the palm tree lined scenic Kearney Blvd from Fresno St. There is a $4.00 entrance fee per car.

Is Billy and Eli Vulkovich still racing midget open wheel cars at Kearney Bowl? My two brothers used to borrow the Peacocks from Kearney Park for nefarious reason. Their reward was a tour of England, France and Germany ...

Kearney Bowl is long gone. I’m not sure which Vuckovich guys were killed. The one years ago, wasn’t that Billie, while racing at Indianapolis? That was probably early 50’s.

Yep it was Billy and I was listening to the Indy race on the car radio on my way to FResno from Eureka the day he died. We used to drive from San Joaquin to Kearney Bowl in a topless Jeep to watch the midgets and eat fresh roasted sun flower seeds...

There was another FResno Vuchovich that was killed a few years ago in a qualifying run at Indy. I believe it was Billie’s grandson. Shoot ..... I can’t remember his name.

I only Kearny Bowl I know of is in Kearny Mesa, San Diego
area. I checked it is still there.
