Who was wrong? You are in the first instance in posting something just to pick an argument. There’s no useful information in the link or your post that would even suggest right, wrong or anything else.

"W/O reading or knowing anything about it..."

there's your problem. i think the lapd guy was off-duty and maybe drunk. the long beach guys were in uniform and responding to a job. that means they are in charge.

So then, we’re both assuming?

My opinion comes from living in the area, and having witnessed their tactics more than a few times. As well, most of LB is a very, very tough area with lots of gangs, lots of crime, and lots of stressful situations.

I’m sure I could be wrong, and I hope so, but I have the problem of too many bad memories needing to be replaced with good ones.

Oh, come on. It is difficult to believe that anyone with an IQ above room temperature could say something like that.

Lets stand back & look at what we do have. Cop A has shot cop B, seriously wounding him.

With nothing more than that there are a limited number of possibilities.

If cop A was right, then cop B must have been committing some kind of a serious crime, otherwise there is no justification for shooting him.

If cop B was not committing a serious crime, then cop A was wrong.

Based on actual results, there just aren't any other possibilities.

Even if cop A thought cop B was committing a serious crime, he has no justification to shoot until he is certain.

“Based on actual results, there just aren’t any other possibilities.”
Imagination is not a substitute for information. Was A right? You have no idea. Was B right? You have no idea. Were both in the wrong? You have no idea. Were errors made on both sides that led to the shooting? You have no idea.
What you do have is a self proclaimed contempt for both persons that you do not know.
So “DO NOT KNOW”, you really shouldn’t comment about anyone else’s I.Q.

like i said earlier, this article has basically zero in terms of facts concerning the situation. but we can assume the LB cops were on duty and the lapd was off. thats where i’m coming from.

"officers responded to a call of a man walking down the street with a firearm."

So much for the right to keep and bear arms!

Assuming the press reports are true, this looks like a good shoot:

Amazing how a dearth of information can rile up the ignorant.

The "interesting" part:

The Long Beach Police Department says the 26-year-old man was shot at 12:30 a.m. after officers responded to a call of a man walking down the street with a firearm.

Hoplophobia at it's most ridiculous. :)

Not much detail. Was this a no knock raid gone bad?

Nope, just some armed hoplophobes "acting out". :) 0r maybe that should be :(.

The gun was described as a large shotgun or a pellet gun with a light on the end of it. It wasn't clear if the light was a laser site or a flashlight, officers said.
...
The shooting, they said, happened within a matter of seconds of the officer's arrival and the gun was recovered.

IOW they know if it was a pellet gun or a shotgun, or an air-soft gun or whatever, but they aren't saying. Interesting. I'd think if it was a shotgun, it would have been laid out on a table and photographed, or at least held up over someones head and photographed.

I agree. However, rolling in on a call of a 'drunk' 'brandishing' a large 'weapon', I don't blame the cop for not taking any chances. I admit to being one who normally disbelieves the initial story given out by our vaunted Law ENFORCEMENT Officers, but like the Marines in Haditha I'll back the cop as his perception at that time under those conditions would permit the use of deadly force. JMHO. And yes, they should have shown the 'weapon' at the briefing; stupid "Blue Line" attitude!

It is amazing to me how an inability to read can rile up the really ignorant.

In post 46 I clearly explain how there are only two possible scenarios for this incident. If the facts presented in your link are true, this fits exactly into the first scenario I presented. Cop A shoots cop B because cop B was committing a serious crime.

It appears that the LAPD will not come out of this incident covered in glory...

Neither do I. I was just contrasting the actions in this case verses what they likely would have been if the shootee had not been another cop.
