An earthquake is now rocking the Southern California area. (I'm near Dodger Stadium)
As I post this, the USGS has not yet determined the epicenter so click on the link above for the exact location and magnitude from the USGS.
Here are the maps for California and Los Angeles:

Here's the historical review of the last seven days:
Thank you. That was not the church. Let’s hope things stay quiet tonight.
You are so kewl! USGS should think about hiring YOU. You could become the first “alert” system, yeknew.
It’s funny. When I was working in the San Francisco Bay area in 1989, I held a first-ever earthquake preparedness and safety meeting right before the Loma Prieta earthquake hit and because of that ended up getting quite an honor from the agency I worked with at the time.
Well, I was under my desk with my tutee/ age 9, trying to be cool and not scream, etc. In San Marino, south of Pasadena a bit. My husband called from San Diego, he had felt it down there too. Rolled TOO LONG but nothing broke. I could tell it came from the east. And you never know, with EQs, whether the S waves that follow the initial jolt will get stronger or peter out. And I could not exactly tell if the quake was still going on or whether it was just ME shaking.
Beats tornados tho, I think.
SMS via cell, data traffic via cell, and even DSL services remained live.
At no time did the power flash or flicker, the three battery conditioners I'm running showed no input level differences, so I don't think there was an internal effect, but a programmed response. If we had a fire, say from a candle being knocked over by the quake, we'd better be able to handle it ourselves.
Totally unexpected and unmatched from previous earthquakes, in my experience.
UCLA just opened their new hospital...it has two helipads! And all the rooms are single person suites. (going after the high dollar insurance !)
my sms on verizon was down an hour....the msgs wouldnt send. AT&T said their software tripped and went into public safety priority mode, which gives pd, fd, and govt priority.
I would say posting on FR was trying for a little while....20 seconds to post...I would expect that was due to the LA data networks.
Wow. I was like about a mile from the epicenter, and it seems like it only lasted for maybe seven, ten seconds.
Maybe Coast to Coast will have that earthquake predictor on....KFI at 10p....
but I dont believe in that tomfoolery...
The earthquake actually lasted less then one second. The ripple effect took up to 30 seconds. The closer you are to the epicenter, the less ripples there are.
Me? I stood in the bathroom, WATCHING my shower DOORS moving...wondering what was going on!? And then it was over...and it dawned on me....um....earthquake maybe?
:)
The older dog, per Gramps, flew under the diningroom table. The pup sat down next to him (Gramps) and ... did nothing.
I LOVE these kind where I feel NOTHING!!! :)
!
:)
First Hour: Brigadier General Amy S. Courter comments on the possibility that Steve Fossett faked his death. Then, geologist Jim Berkland talks about today’s quake in So. Cal.
haha..he is on...Jim Berkland.
15 minutes and counting.....
Not that I believe that stuff...but tonight WILL be interesting! :)

You must be in the far north not to have felt that. I have friends in Ventura and Santa Barbara that felt it.
400 miles North. :-)
south tip of SF Bay, we got faults all over here..
I nominate this for Post Of The Day. You are entirely correct and I TOTALLY BUMP this post!
