A rookie cop - the son of a highly respected New York City detective - has been stripped of his badge and gun after being caught on video viciously attacking a bicyclist who was part of a Times Square demonstration. '
The startling YouTube video shows Officer Patrick Pogan, 22, apparently setting his sights on - and then tackling - a bicyclist as he pedaled along Seventh Avenue as part of last Friday's controversial Critical Mass ride.
Christopher Long, 29, was among a throng of riders as he whizzed toward the corner of West 46th Street at 9:30 p.m. and appeared to try and swerve away from the officer.
But the video shows Pogan pick up his pace as he stares down Long before shoving the cyclist, slamming him to the pavement.
To the dismay of stunned pedestrians, Long, who was not wearing a helmet, hurtles several feet through the air as he flips off the bicycle and lands on the curb.

You have some boot polish on your teeth there.....
Guaranteed!
And you have a mouthfull of strange smelling peanut butter.
Next you’ll be telling me in depends on what the word is is.
My prediction:
Cop gets some kind of suspension and learns to lie better in the future.
Bike boy has all charges against him dropped.
We’ll see what happens.
You are defending the cop, yet you have not once mentioned that the cop gave a false statement under oath about HOW the collision occurred NOR did he charge the cyclist with anything that happened outside of the view of the camera.
So your cop is a stupid lying thug twice over, and YOU are licking his boots by defending the indefensible.
Its clear from the cop’s movement that he is taking out a bag of dirt that messed with someone. I don’t give a damn what he said; its obvious that he took out a member of a priviledged class of criminal.
Free Republic is sure going down the sewer pipe. Go ride your bike.
First, I think you’re right, the cop is going to get the short end of this, just as in Rodney King.
Biker Boy goes free, and just like ROdney King, and we we keep hearing about him in the years to come.
Second, what do you mean by ‘depends what is is’? Are you referring to my observation that there are several seconds missing?
I’m refering to Bubbas parsing of words to avoid admitting the truth even in the face of overwhelming evidence.
Note: I am not comparing you to the vile Clinton.
Look at the video, Biker Boy turns right at the last moment.
You seem obsessed with this guy's politics, though it hasn't absolutely nothing to do with the events.
It has a lot to do with the events, just look at the history of CM rides and their interaction with ordinary folks and with police.
And the cop claimed he was knocked to the ground, which clearly never happened.
Can't prove that beyond a reasonable doubt, based on the video, as they are offscreen and just what happened there is open to doubt.
When an individual who is part of a group of basically Anti-American Leftists comes up against the cops, I'm siding with the cops.
Well, I knew that, but I’m not sure what I said that compares to the Bent One. And thanks, I also knew you were comparing me to him.
How is it clear? Other than you inferring that the cop wouldn’t have done so without cause. It’s clear from the cyclists movement that he was steering to avoid the cop just like the 3 cyclists before him. That’s what’s clear.
The cop charged the cyclist with absolutely NOTHING that wasn’t on camera, what possibly could have happened that forced the cop to make an arrest for which he had NO CHARGE?
I don’t ride bikes and I don’t like hippies who do, but I absolutely LOATHE cops who abuse their authority.
FR is going down the pipe if we wind up being ever more populated with bootlicking types.
That is, just because I think your being as incredulous in your statements on this subject as Bubba was when he made that statement, doesn't mean I think you are an evil scumbag like Bubba.
OK, I’m feeling a little dumb, but was it that I think the cop may have fallen to one knee that caused the Clinton reminder?
If I were on the jury, and all we had was what’s been presented here, I’d find for the cop, simply because there is enough video missing to cause reasonable doubt.
I’m sure there is more video, and that may change my mind, but, the fact that it hasn’t surfaced is suspicious and prejudices me even more against the Biker Guy.
But, you did agree that the cop will likely face some discipline and the hippy will get off. So you must at least think that a jury made up of people other than you would see it my way.right?
For what it's worth, if the report had said “I effected the arrest of the hippy who refused to stop by pushing him down” or something to that effect, we could all be here posting jokes about what a great tackle it was, etc.
No. I'm not an attorney, but because there is video 'missing' get me in front of a jury and even I could cause enough doubt in their minds to find that he might have fallen. It's the 'beyond a reasonable doubt' approach that matters.
I'm saying that the DBM will be able to stampede this whole thing to 'get' the cop the same way they did with Rodney King.
Oh. Well I don’t think it will get that far. The cop won’t be charged with anything, the charges against the biker will be dropped. You’ll never even hear about what discipline the cop faced, if it’s reported at all it will be a small paragraph on the back pages.
NYC has too much going on for the DBM to keep this going.
They got their story, tommorow’s a new day.
True
And we're laughing at you (and others) for blindly defending the undefendable. The cop should lose his badge over this.
Why?
