A rookie cop - the son of a highly respected New York City detective - has been stripped of his badge and gun after being caught on video viciously attacking a bicyclist who was part of a Times Square demonstration. '
The startling YouTube video shows Officer Patrick Pogan, 22, apparently setting his sights on - and then tackling - a bicyclist as he pedaled along Seventh Avenue as part of last Friday's controversial Critical Mass ride.
Christopher Long, 29, was among a throng of riders as he whizzed toward the corner of West 46th Street at 9:30 p.m. and appeared to try and swerve away from the officer.
But the video shows Pogan pick up his pace as he stares down Long before shoving the cyclist, slamming him to the pavement.
To the dismay of stunned pedestrians, Long, who was not wearing a helmet, hurtles several feet through the air as he flips off the bicycle and lands on the curb.

i guess it is due to the nature of the rider and the what the ride represents. i have personally worked this ride multiple times. truth be told, these people suck. big time. but personally, i have never seen a biker do anything but talk a bunch of crap to us. we usually laugh. but when action needs to be taken, we take it.
the video looks bad. but i have learned there are 3 sides to every story: yours, mine, and the truth. however, when an affidavit and a video camera is involved, you (as a cop) had better be closest to the truth.
PERHAPS that level of force wasn't warranted in this specific instance, but we have to wait until we know everything.
there is no proper police procedure when it comes to force. it's simply whatever is proper at that time.
Just your naive grasp of what constitutes the "complete story".
Not really, but it's the best answer I've got.
You'd be a model citizen in North Korea or China.
Next juvenile question?
Why do you voluntarily live in a country where people you don't like continue to maintain such rights as those provided by the sixth and eighth amendments to the Constitution? There are many nations on this earth where the authorities or allowed to bash in the heads of nuisance makers. You'd like life there.
I understand your need to twist my words into a lie, but just to correct the record (for those who care) my claim is that something happened PRIOR to what the Utube is showing.
Remember that famous Rodney king video? I'm suggesting, that just as was the case with Rodney King, there is more to the story than what is shown here, and the policemens report says as much.
I have no doubt. You can practically smell the patchouli oil over the internet.
but personally, i have never seen a biker do anything but talk a bunch of crap to us. we usually laugh. but when action needs to be taken, we take it.
I support necessary and appropriate action by the police against dickheads like this. This doesn't appear to be anything of the sort. It was a punk move by a two-weeks-on-the-job cop who then he lied about it and arrested his victim.
He'd be better off as an ex-cop, for his own sake, the sake of his fellow officers, and the sake of the public at large.
He's not worthy of the NYPD badge.
It’s not naive, it’s all the story we need to determine the cop lied under oath. The video proves he hit the biker and not the other way around.
It doesn’t matter what else happened. The cops a liar, the video proves it.
Covering your ears and repeating “the cop is right” over and over to yourself won’t change the facts.
Talk about naive..
The video shows already stopped cars, it does not show how they came to be stopped. I think close examination of the beginning of the video shows stopped riders interfering with traffic. I believe Mr. Long may be one of them.
I'm sure something DID happen prior to the tackle by the cop, something that provoked him. Maybe biker boy gave him the finger or shouted something, whatever.
Unfortunately, the cop irrefutably lied under oath about his take down of the biker, thereby destroying his credibility and ensuring himself some discipline and that biker boy will suffer no further consequences.
So what if all the cars were stopped? I’m saying something happened BEFORE the bicycle came into view, and that includes the time before the cars were stopped.
I’m suggesting the both cops targeted this guy to be stopped, (notice BOTH cops moved in on this guy) he attempted to ‘run’ by heading for the curb, and then rammed the policeman that same way someone in a car rams the police cruiser when they see they can’t evade the police cruiser. Anyone who has watched the Cops show even once or twice has seen that, and I’m saying this is simply the bicycle/policeman on foot version of that ramming.
I’m saying the bicyclist did indeed purposely ram him. It was a decision made AFTER the bicyclist saw he couldn’t get away.
There is way more to the story than the Utube shows.
I’ll take the word of a cop over the Leftist any day. Especially an activist Leftist.
Ok, Chuckle!
I don't think he lied under oath, see my earlier post to Dead.
Ok, the video shows the cop taking two steps and jacking the guy up. The cop never falls. This is fact.
The cop says the guy crashed into him and knocked him down.
Like I said, the cop irrefutably lied.
When you have an organized group passing through town ignoring stop signs and turn signals I have no problem with civil authorities using physical force to stop them.
Period.
And I don’t really give a crap how fond anarchy is among your personal values Loyd. I know what Critical Mass is, what it does, and what their goal is.
I will agree he should have shouted stop, and then tasered the guy when he didn’t stop, instead of body checking him when he didn’t stop - that way the cop would be less likely to get diseases from touching him.
The cars were stopped before the guy even got there, judging by the speed he was moving. They were stopped because of all the assholes on bikes, but they were stopped as far as the cop could see.
Im suggesting the both cops targeted this guy to be stopped, (notice BOTH cops moved in on this guy)
Both cops appeared to be walking towards the curb, when one decided it was clobbering time. The other cop makes no movement whatsoever towards the cyclist and appears as stunned as everybody else when your hero bodyslams him.
he attempted to run by heading for the curb,
LOL! He was attempting to avoid the cop, who made no motion that he wanted him to stop and didn't appear to say anything either. As the cyclist moved further to the left, the cop sped up to make sure he could hit him.
and then rammed the policeman that same way someone in a car rams the police cruiser when they see they cant evade the police cruiser. Anyone who has watched the Cops show even once or twice has seen that, and Im saying this is simply the bicycle/policeman on foot version of that ramming. Im saying the bicyclist did indeed purposely ram him. It was a decision made AFTER the bicyclist saw he couldnt get away.
You're delusional. The cop practically ran to slam into the guy from the side. You're saying the cyclist somehow made his bicycle magically jump sideways into the cop. Wow. There is no limit to your contortions to excuse this cop's behavior.
There is way more to the story than the Utube shows. Ill take the word of a cop over the Leftist any day. Especially an activist Leftist.
You seem obsessed with this guy's politics, though it hasn't absolutely nothing to do with the events. Besides, at no point have I said I believe anything he said or didn't say. I don't care what the dope said. It has no effect whatsoever on my ability to look at the evidence and decide what I think.
The cop ran at him like a punk and slammed into him from the side sending him flying. Their contact was front of the cop to side of the bicyclist. Unless he has a magical bike, that means the cop rammed him. And the cop claimed he was knocked to the ground, which clearly never happened.
You need to let go of your obsession with the fact that the bike guy is a hippy and hippies suck. Both of those may be true, but this cop is an asshole and a liar.
Like I said, the cop irrefutably lied.
There are several seconds where the cop is out of sight of the video. From this video, it can't be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the cop wasn't knocked down, possibly only to one knee, but knocked down none-the-less.
When in doubt, I will side with a cop over an Activist Leftist any day, and every day.
Ping Mr K.
Watched the video, and it looks clear to me that the cop was taking out a malefactor.
The video conveniently leaves out the part showing what the cyclist did, but there is no doubt that the cop was taking necessary action.
I would say that the officer tackled the cyclist. Knowing cyclists as I do, my money is on the cop this time.
Why do you say the cop was wrong?
If he did nothing, he would be more wrong.
Barbara Streisand!
