WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House of Representatives was poised Tuesday to pass a resolution apologizing to African-Americans for slavery and the era of Jim Crow.
The nonbinding resolution, which is expected to pass, was introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen, a white lawmaker who represents a majority black district in Memphis, Tennessee.
While many states have apologized for slavery, it will be first time a branch of the federal government will apologize for slavery if the resolution passes, an aide to Cohen said.
By passing the resolution, the House would also acknowledge the "injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery and Jim Crow," the period after slavery was abolished in which African-Americans were denied the right to vote and other civil liberties. The resolution states that "the vestiges of Jim Crow continue to this day."

What!? Again?
When are the Barbary pirates gonna apologize for it`s slavery, more whites inslaved than blacks.
And when`s the apology for white indentured servants?
I take that this will be a purely partisan vote since it was democrats that fought the hardest to continue slavery while The Republican party was formed to end it.
Does this resolution take the Democrat Party particularly to task for their establishing the “Jim Crow” laws?
Or is this just a racial thing?
...they’re apologizing AGAIN?
In 1988, Congress passed and President Reagan signed a law apologizing to the 120,000 Japanese-Americans who were held in detention camps during World War II. The 60,000 detainees who were alive at the time each received $20,000 from the government.
I smell a reparations scam just staring to simmer.......................
Ironic when you consider that Obama is going to “require” service from all citizens.
You’re right, come to think of it. And I guess we should apologize to Britain for taking their colonies and the French for that whole Louisiana Purchase thing...and the Russians for duping them out of Alaska at such a low price...hmmm...is there anyone we don’t owe an apology?
You left out Asians and “regular Americans” (as Archie once called them).
In my lifetime, there has been more money given to Black Americans than any other special interetst group. The return on investment has been pitiful. I am thru with all the PC bull. If people call me racist, I simply laugh because I realize they have no logical rebut to my arguments. Apologize my azz.....
My vote this November will be a rejection of all things Politically Correct. The thought of having a President I can’t criticize frightens the hell out of me...
Isn’t there more important issues on the plate for Congress right now?
Seriously, this is such a waste of time and taxpayers money. I can’t believe this trvial poltical hackery.
OMG, this blows my mind how there a million other things to be worrying about right now. So they do this instead?!
If there is any common sense left, this people should and need to be voted out right now!
I’m Irish, where is my d*mn apology?!
UGH!
Glad to know there aren’t any serious issues facing the nation.
Now I just lost my breakfast.
This is ridiculous. Why not just specifically have the Democrat party apologize for it. They were the formalized party of the racists. They’ve kept the blacks on the liberal plantation ever since enacting policies to destroy the black family and replace ‘dad’ with ‘uncle sugar.’ And free up ‘mom’ with ‘planned parenthood’.
So sickening.
I think the Democrat party should just come out right now and advocate reparations, maybe offering it as a plank in their party platform at the Convention.
Congressman Cohen represents the most violent city in the country, and he waste his time and our money on this crap.
More than that, my great grandmother, your great-great grandmother was an indentured servant to a prod family in Grosse Pointe. Pay up, suckas.
When the Democrat Party apologizes I’ll take notice.
