But who even knew that Katrina hit Mississippi? I hear ya. If your only news comes from the boob tube, you'd have never known it. My wife's cousin coordinated USCG rescue flight ops after Katrina hit. We knew the score...

We had a lot of USCG and USN resources stage at NAS Pensacola.
Those big amphibioius air cushioned boats are something else!
I didn’t see New Orleans but I did see most of the HWY 90 coastline up to I-10 and what the storm surge did.
Funny thing is that people would say that it looked like a war zone and I’d have to disagree....the coastal areas looked much worse than Baghdad!

Did the people saying that to you realize that you’d seen a war zone?
FR ran the story of Keesler’s Base Commander and his experiences during Katrina...I was there as a youngster...I was just amazed at what I read.
We went through a hurricane while stationed there, and I don’t remember there being much significant damage at the time. Katrina was not nice to the Gulf Coast.
