Tennessee man cites church's liberal values as reason for shooting (barf)

A man who shot and killed two parishioners during a children's play at a Tennessee church yesterday attacked the congregation because of its outspoken socially liberal and gay-friendly beliefs, police said.

The 58-year-old unemployed engineer accused in the Sunday morning attack at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, was driven to bloodshed in part by his "stated hatred for the liberal movement" as well as his hatred for gays, said Knoxville, Tennessee, police chief Sterling Owen. "We're certainly investigating it as a hate crime."

“...and this nut can’t be blamed on a leftist ideology. Nuts come in all flavors, and some of them are going to have loony ideas on all sides.”

Psst. Fred “God hate f**s” Phelps is a Democrat and no conservative.

Not claiming that this man is a Phelpist, just pointing out that there are Leftists (like Phelps’ cult who protest the Iraq war weekly) who hold hate in their heart that seems to be hand in hand with this man’s actions.

Additionally there are those social conservative Democrats who “cling to guns and religion” and vote against such ballot initiatives and liberal candidates “in spite of their own economic self-interest”.

According to his neighbors he was anti-Christian.

http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/jul/27/neighbors-accused-shooter-everyones-friend-hated-c/

“He had his own sense of belief about religion, that’s the impression I got of him,” said neighbor Karen Massey. “We were talking one day when my daughter graduated from Bible college, and I told him I was a Christian, then he almost turned angry.

“He seemed to get angry at that.”

According to Massey, Adkisson talked frequently about his parents who “made him go to church all his life ... he was forced to do that.”

Unfortunate situation. This man was obviously at one time considered to have much potential. You don’t get into army airborne by being some kind of nut. Sounds like the story of many ex military, just went overboard instead of somewhat meshing with society. Their are many cases out there just like this waiting to explode, and it seems like this “churches” if that what you want to call it, message tipped him over the edge. These types of “churches” to me are using the word only for tax purposes, because they absolutely teach nothing like any of the churches I grew up around. Then again, maybe I’m a nut too. I guess I just need to get with it, and start embracing homosexuality, gay marriage, and killing little babies!!

We were TOLD at the time that Charles Bishop/Bishra (the Tampa teen kamikaze pilot) was a “young conservative” although his suicide note called his actions “terrorist acts” and praised support for Bin Laden and made claims of having met members of Al Qaida and not joining and of an “upcoming” terror threat against the superbowl (his letter was released to the public months after his death and even after the superbowl had passed without event).

The media has sat on terrorist letters in the past. They’ve ginned up political leanings before.

Not denying that this man could be right wing loony, just saying we’ve been there before and been blamed for actions that later were proven to be from an altogether different bent WITH the paper trail in the officials hands WHILE they smeared with lies.

So, basically, the guy was a nutcase, but I’m sure the MSM will try to portray ALL conservatives in an equal manner.

Well, I guess we can't look for that aspect of his personality to be played up.

The Left has been subverting churches for decades now.

Now they don’t even teach hate the sin but love the sinner. They teach the concept of an evolving bible where we now deny that some things even are sins and celebrate them instead.

I’ve left corrupt church leadership but have not left my faith. There are good churches out there, so I hear. But it requires investigation. Investigation too into any national church leadership they are members of.

I don’t know what can be done to put churches back on a biblical path. Elders and the like. Elections. What is the limtus test to get people in the organized church who are counter to the politics of those who’ve gained control of the church?

That is the exact reason why no church, mosque or synagogue should have tax exempt status.

The libs appease Islamic terrorists when they kill innocents. I wonder if this church will therefore appease those who share this freak’s views?

He had apparently been out of work since 2006, and believed liberals were taking jobs he should have, Owen said. Investigators are not aware of any affiliation with a church or with any known hate groups. Adkisson had no next of kin or family, police said.

Sad, pathetic little man with a mental illness, and no one to turn to.

(Still, I would seek the death penalty...)

Probably true. If Dianetics can be a church, than nearly anything can be a church. I would be interested if anyone knows how the IRS defines a religion for the purpose of being a tax exempt church.

When I studied it many years ago, the definition for a religion we used did not require belief in G-d. For anyone who might be interested, here is the definition of religion we used:

A philosophy of life, practiced by a community, defined in myth and ritual.

UGH, this stupid psycho... it wasn’t bad enough he had to kill people at a children’s play in a church, but now he’s tarring conservatives with his crimes. Go away please... no one EVER needs ‘conservatives’ like that! I don’t care what he thought he was accomplishing, firing a shotgun in the direction of innocent children is pure evil, and no one’s fault but his own.

I believe in capital punishment for murder. I don’t believe there should be a separate category called “hate crime” that makes some people’s lives worth more than others. I object to that whole concept.

Could be a liberal disguised as a conservative in order to give conservatives a bad rap.

That’s a theory that could be plausible. Maybe he’s really a liberal and wanted to end his life and make conservatives look bad. That would explain why someone who hates religion would attack a liberal church.

Ironically the authorities in Knoxville aren't going to prosecute the four blacks that went out and abducted a couple of UT students, raped them, tortured them and then murdered them because they were white. This incident makes national news yet the previous murders went barely noticed except for a couple of articles in the MSM...I guess if one expresses hatred for homosexuals it makes national news, gets the FBI involved and if one just hates whitey its ok...no big deal.

I was in one of their churches recently for a retirement party and yes, they are quite leftist. But that in no way excuses what this homicidal maniac did. And if he is given the death penalty, no doubt the congregation will be protesting and condemning the sentence. They tend to be very pacifistic sheep.

At least it should be fun when he uses his murder trial to present his Conservative Manifesto.

Not a good match. Terrorism is much closer.
