He played the role of the late John Paul II in the movie about him.
I think he took the teaching of the Holy Father to heart.
I wanted to make an art piece of Barack Obama because I thought an iconic portrait of him could symbolize and amplify the importance of his mission. I believe Obama will guide this country to a future where everyone can thrive and I should support him vigorously for the sake of my two young daughters. I have made art opposing the Iraq war for several years, and making art of Obama, who opposed the war from the start, is like making art for peace. I know I have an audience of young art fans and Im delighted if I can encourage them to see the merits of Barack Obama.

See? It's all about "peace, love, togetherness" and "change".
Here are some of Fairey's other masterpieces. No joke. Most of his works are along these same lines. Check the link.

From a 'Thank you' letter Barack Obama sent to Shepard Fairey:
"Dear Shepard, I would like to thank you for using your talent in support of my campaign. The political messages involved in your work have encouraged Americans to believe they can help change the status quo. Your images have a profound effect on people, whether seen in a gallery or on a stop sign.'"

The paper is looking for some kind of a name draw “did you see the commentary BY...?”. Water cooler talk, talk radio talk, emails, etc...
It is unfortunate that the media lets some people have front of the line access to the soapbox even though their political views hold no more weight than “ordinary” Americans.
At least the views are being aired. And they don’t seem to be photocopied talking points.
Gen. Wesley Clark, who himself has shame upon him, having been relieved of his command, has done their bidding and become a lying fool in his need to demean a fellow soldier and a true hero.
Needs repeating often!
My Vote's for Obama (if I could vote) ...by Michael Moore
Friends,
I don't get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn't get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted.
So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote -- and yours -- on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama?

Michael Moore (quote), from his website, April 14, 2004...
"The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' or 'The Enemy.' They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win. Get it, Mr. Bush?"
[actual quote from Michael Moore (2004). It still appears on his website]

The Communist Party USA (CPUSA):
"We are a party of unity in action. We are an integral part of every struggle and movement for change to eliminate poverty and joblessness, against racism and for full equality. We are participants, initiators and leaders of every movement to make life better now and much better in a socialist future." Yeah, so they supported an oppressive dictator, like the Repubs and Democrats haven't? The CP is still around, has apologized for that whole Stalin thing, and has a quickly growing youth section.

I agree. Liberals always escaped the responsibility of advocating surrender or defeat in Vietnam and the consequences of boat people, Pol Pot, and re-education camps.
Back in the early 90’s my husband and I went down to IU to see my son graduate.
One of the speakers there was Birch Bayh, Evan Bayhs dad. His speech was socialist in nature. My husband got up and walked out.
On our way home that day it really dawned on us what kind of indoctrination was happening.
My son is pretty much a lib. He is a young, successful guy working on his Doctorate, living in Boulder, traveling the world, talking about caribou and polar bears.
I love him to pieces and he is very good to me. You canot talk politics because he is always right. You know what I mean? LOL
I am in full agreement with you Mr. Voight. A fine editorial.
New scene - Jerry and George in Jerry’s apartment.
JERRY: No Jon Voight Day, huh?
GEORGE: No. Now I’ll always have this doubt about the car. What, your jaw still hurts?
JERRY: Yeah, it’s all swollen. I think I may have chipped a tooth when I fell yesterday.
GEORGE: You should have somebody take a look at that.
JERRY: I’m calling dentists all day here, there’s nobody working the day before Thanksgiving.
GEORGE: You going to the party?
JERRY: No, I don’t know if I’m invited.
GEORGE: Well, there’s going to be a lot of dentists there.
JERRY: Yeah, you’re right.
GEORGE: You don’t want to suffer with this all weekend.
JERRY: Yeah, I gotta see a dentist, this is killin’ me. Well, I’ll take a chance. We’ll go together.
GEORGE: Maybe I’ll just meet you there.
JERRY: You don’t want to go with me?
GEORGE: Jerry, for all I know this guy went out of his way to not invite you. How am I gonna feel if I show up with an uninvited, unwelcome intruder?
JERRY: The way I feel when I go places with you? [Kramer enters.] Hey, so’d you find my sneakers yet?
KRAMER: No. [To George] But I did run into somebody you might be interested in, a Mr. Jon Voight, the actor?
GEORGE: Jon Voight! Are you kiddin’ me? Did you talk to him?
KRAMER: Well, he was a little standoffish.
GEORGE: What, you didn’t ask him about the car?
KRAMER: No, I couldn’t, his cab pulled away. But he did, however, make an impression on me. [Pulls up his sleeve and shows George his arm.] Look.
JERRY: What?
KRAMER: His tooth marks. He bit me.
GEORGE: Jon Voight bit you?
JERRY: Well, what is he, a vampire?
KRAMER: No, it’s justifiable. He thought I was going for his wallet.
GEORGE (looking at Kramer’s arm): He left perfect imprints.
KRAMER: That he did. Now, you got that pencil with the bite marks on it? We get a trained eye to match ‘em up, and we’ll see whether or not you’re driving Jon Voight’s car!
JERRY: Oh, please.
GEORGE: Wait a minute, wait, it’s not that stupid.
JERRY: No, it’s stupid.
GEORGE: Why? Why isn’t it possible? I mean, they’re both bite marks.
JERRY: So you’re gonna show up at that party with a chewed-up pencil and Kramer’s gnarled arm.
GEORGE: It’s worth a shot. [Goes to the door.]
JERRY: So, Kramer, you wanna go to the party together?
KRAMER: Jerry, look, come on, I’m an invited guest. I can’t be aiding and abetting some...party-crasher.
REPORTER 1: Jane, who are you voting for?
REPORTER 2: Who gets your vote?
FONDA: Obama.
REPORTER 2: Oh, my God. Heaven help us all.
RUSH: The reporter for TMZ said, "Oh, God. Heaven help us all." Obviously the reporter is an Obama supporter.

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:
"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."
http://www.wintersoldier.com/index.php?topic=Timeline
Fonda made the following statement at the University of Texas:
"We've got to establish a Socialist economic structure that will limit private profit-oriented businesses. Whether the transition is peaceful depends on the way our present governmental leaders react. We must commit our lives to this transition ...... We should be very proud of our new breed of soldier. It's not organized but it's mutiny, and they have every right." --Karen Elliott Dallas Morning News December 11, 1971
From 1972: "I am not a do-gooder, I am a revolutionary. A revolutionary woman."

My surprise here isn’t that a celebrity wrote about it, my surprise is that one of the mainstream daily papers finally included references to Obama’s socialist background.
I’ve always found this more important to dredge up and put before the voting public than whether or not Obama is hiding his self acknowledged Islamic studies as a youth.
I’ll have to see that sometime.
She won't go on The O’Reilly Factor to discuss her role in the UN. Has she been on FoxNews at all?
Hindsight is 20-20.
“The CP is still around, has apologized for that whole Stalin thing,”
WHO has the Communist Party USA apologized to? Senator Joseph McCarthy’s family? The critics of the Rosenbergs? Eastern Europe?
It’s like saying that neo-nazis “apologized for that whole Hitler thing”.
I know what you’re saying, but if the op ed were by, let’s say, JANE FONDA, we’d be pissed off.
And one of the FEW times I have ever read about Clark’s being relieved of his command.
