Thanks for posting the thread for me, Ma! I thought I'd share with everyone a little of where I was.... We started off in St. Louis, flew to San Francisco and rode south thru Monterey and Big Sur to Moonstone Beach for the night. The next day we got up and rode back north on the Pacific Coast Highway through San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge... We ended up that day in a place called Bodega Bay. It was a small little town, but the view was nice! On Day Three we headed up the coast from Bodega Bay, by some gorgeous coastline again and thru Redwood country... During this leg of the trip we encountered quite a bit of smoke from the wildfires. We had smelled a little smoke and seen a bit of the remnants of the wildfires at Big Sur while we were there, but this was WAY worse. We stopped in a little town calle Hayfork, CA and while we were getting a couple cold drinks, we saw Sikorsky Sky Cranes flying over in addition to an unreal number of firefighters and "Hot Shots." On our way out of town we got this self-portrait - and yes, we were moving (albeit slowly!) at the time... In the pic below, look closely. That is NOT fog, it's smoke. If you think of it tonight, say a prayer for the firefighters -- they are heroes without a doubt. |
Ping to #375.
Looks like yall had a nice ride!
What cool pictures and what a neat trip. Prayers always for the firefighters. It is not a pretty job.
Star, your pix brings back memories! I lived in the SF Bay Area from ‘49 (when I was discharged from the Navy) until ‘90 when we moved to Oregon.
Bodega Bay has some good deep sea fishing, the rock cod are excellent. Bodega Bay was where the Hitchcock movie The Birds was filmed.
There are some good two lane roads for bike riding, in California. Oregon’s two lane road are superior because they are better maintained and fewer four wheeled vehicles.
Thanks for sharing the pix and your ride!!
