Who is McCain's Base? (Vanity)
Vanity | 7/27/2008 | Wasted Potential

Posted on 07/27/2008 1:53:14 PM PDT by wastedpotential

I have been in sackloth and ashes ever since the end of the Republican primary season dwelling on the mess we find ourselves in. Conservatives have watched the Republican nomination process get hijacked from them while they were debating whether our candidate should be socially conservative (Huckabee) vs economically conservative (Romney). Now we have McCain, who has historically proven to be mediocre at best on both sets of issues. His only strength was his view on the Iraq war.

Now that we appear to have turned the corner in Iraq, the whole withdrawal argument may be moot. If things continue this way, McCain will be reducing troop levels and bringing the home if elected president. So what is his candidacy about? If the Iraq war is basically won before the election, what is it that will define his candidacy?

Here's another question - who is McCain's base? Who will work the phones? Who will go door to door during the 72 hour GOTV? Who will organize and fund the 527 groups that can take shots at Obama that he can't (or won't) take himself, ala the Swiftboat Vets? More simply asked - who is passionate about McCain's candidacy?

The answer, to me is, nobody. Sure, a lot of us conservatives and disaffected union democrats will vote for McCain as the lesser of 2 evils, but who will "turn out" the voters? Who will sacrifice time from work and money from their budgets to see that he gets elected?

If I am right, I think that President Barack Hussein Obama will be in office come January, killing our way of life with an overwhelming Democrat Congress. Does anyone have a better answer?

What a disgusting thing to post. Shame that you sink these conversations to such a level.

Oh, grow up!

Do you actually think that your whining is going to convince me to vote for McCain?

We could be running a ham sandwich, it doesn't matter. This election is about B. Obama. '08 Ballot:

  1. Barack Obama - D
  2. Ham Sandwich - M

Excellent observation

Ya know, I keep hopin’ folk who think like you are correct - Obama should have a 10+ point lead right now, and, not having it, is doomed.
But it is important to remember that pollsters LIKE accurate polls and are probably refining their methods continuously. It could be that they are taking more accurate polls...
I sure wish we had a candidate, about whom we could enthusiastic...

Excellent observation.

If people had known the real Ross Perot and his giant Narcissistic Personality flaws he would have been laughed out of town.

However, BY Gum the Ross voters showed the Republican party where the calf sucks and instead got a president and an intern that ...err fogetit..

I am not buying this not voting over principle excuses, my children mean more to me than pride and vanity.

I heard this same crap again in 1998 and the election in Venezuela how Hugo would be so terrible that the voters would learn a lesson.

Well the voters learned a lesson called socialism and loss of individual freedoms and government take overs that will eventually drive the country into further third world status.

That is if the stupid asset congress will get off their reelection butts and do something for America like an energy plan besides partisan bickering.

My new congressman is Patrick Murphy, a lawyer in JAG (Justice Advocate General) who did three months in Iraq in 2003... and then ran for office on the premise he was this big "veteran" war hero.

The local newspaper slobbered all over him, proclaiming him to be Audie Murphy... single handedly taking out alQaeda in the backers of Baghdad...

When in reality this buffoon Democrat never left the Green Zone... and his job was to escort incoming and outgoing political dignitaries to the airport.

He admitted he never even held a gun while there, and his other job was to represent Iraqi's who were filing lawsuits against the US military for collateral damage, etc.

This lib Dem maligned the military during his entire campaign.. was opposed vehemently to the surge, and has flipped over on every single issue... every single campaign promise he made.

Excuse me for venting... but this guy was the spearhead of the Democratic plot to reclaim the "military" vote by recruiting every Dem with a heartbeat who had been in the military during the War on Terror to have them run for office.

No one on the GOP side disparaged this Dem's service. But it was beyond frustrating that the media made this guy out to be a combat soldier who hated GWB, etc.

Our excellent Republican congressman (former) had a tough time getting the time of day from the local newspapers near Philly, all of which are Obama supporters, dontcha know.

Thank you Edit35, I had heard about this from Vets for Freedom.

But, you are so absolutely dead right — check out my post 96 in this thread.

You helped me to illustrate my point and to put an even finer point on it.

What about Joe Sestak, he rose to prominence as a Navy Admiral due in large part because of his views and overwhelming open support of the Clinton administration while still in uniform, and because of that, he was rewarded with a position to serve in the Office of the President of the United States as the Director for Defense Policy on the National Security Council staff at the White House, where he was responsible for national security and defense strategy, policies, programs, interagency and congressional coordination and regional political/military advice. He was at times in conflict with the Pentagon, but, because of who his boss was...he had top cover. Odd, he retired right after Bush became CIC.

And guess what, why we are assuming we have seen the worst — the Dems are putting candidates like him in positions of power to set him up to one day be the presumptive nominee in a future Presidential election, and he will have all the credentials for the far left to hold their nose and vote for him (across the entire left leaning spectrum - to include the folks in the middle), because once in the white house...

He has already endorsed BHO...

Obama haters, pissed off Hillary supporters, old farts that only look at his military service, ex-Obama supports that have seen into Obama’s empty soul, and pissed off conservatives that understand third parties never win.

So is that the answer - McCain’s base is made up of those who despise Obama?

Yes.

Obama has a smallish lead, even with the temporary Euro bump. People don't like him and they don't trust him. That's death at the voting

Everyone, even those I know who are not particularly political use the word "scary" to describe B. HUSSEIN Obama. I'm even getting anti-Obama forwards from them.

These are those whom I would describe as the squishy middle. I personally know of NO ONE who is going to vote Obama.

McCains base? All 12 of them are Freepers and they will call you all kinds of nasty things if you dare say a negative word about their weak candidate.

Can you prove this?

Good! To those who think going 3rd party will teach the Republicans a lesson, just look at how much good a vote for the little prick with ears did us!

I don't carry much anger around in my heart but I am still angry at Perot and his ‘volunteers’, the unrepentant ones at least!

So basically what you're saying is that NEITHER of the candidates have a base and more people are scared of Obomba than McCain.

Is that correct?
