Carolyn Sharp’s beloved greyhound Starr was 4 years old when she was diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer.
Sharp decided the two of them would stay together as long as Starr was not suffering too much. The greyhound received radiation treatments and pain patches for several months until the veterinarian told Sharp it was time to end it.
“When we went in for the last time, I held her in my arms for the comfort of both of us until she had left,” said Sharp, who lives in Overland Park. “I have still not really made peace with losing her so young.”
Eight years later she still doesn’t understand the “why.” But she is certain she’ll hold Starr again — in an afterlife.
“I believe I’ll have three cats and a whole bunch of dogs waiting for me,” Sharp said.
Is there an afterlife for animals? Or as a popular question puts it, “Do all dogs go to heaven?”
Jack Vinyardi of Kansas City, an ordained interfaith chaplain of pets, said he is asked that question all the time as he comforts people about to lose or who have lost a pet.

I doubt He would deny YOU, the continued joy that He created in animals. Recall Noah’s ark - He saved one male and one female to procreate. They are important to Him too!
I've lost too many friends in this lifetime to believe otherwise.

I hope not even though I love them. They may be waiting for me to wreck vengance for ending their lives in their old age, or when they got deathly sick.

No, it isn't. Please take a look at Romans 8:19 - 24:
19) For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manefestation of the sons of God.
20) For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope.
21) Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the sons of God.
22) For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23) And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
There are several other passages that deal with spiritual issues regarding created beings other than humankind. Not a sparrow falls ... God loves and cares for His creation, which was subjected to death and corruption through sin. Sin and death will be destroyed. All will be restored, save the unrepentant, to the life without death that has been God's plan all along.
Or perhaps loving you for taking care of them.

If the wisest, King Solomon, said himself that man is no better than the animals, then who am I to say otherwise? If God loves the sparrow, then who am I to question his unending grace for all his children - even his smallest?
This passage, taken out of context in certain translations, is largely responsible for the notion that animals are destined for oblivion. It's actually intended to deflate the hubris of those who believed the same thing, back in King Solomon's time.

So all animals go to heaven?? There are a gazillion ants, flies, cockroaches, lizards, slugs and tarantulas to deal with in heaven, all because they don’t have to repent?
Or is it your view that just “pets” go to heaven? No alley cats or stray dogs, or wild horses?
Frankly, I think the idea that all dead animals have found eternal life is stupid. But then so is the idea that dead humans go to “heaven.” There is no such thing. Once your vitals stop, you no longer exist. Period.

Ridiculous. Please explain. How is a sparrow taken care of in heaven? What does a sparrow DO in heaven? Eat the worms in heaven? Fly through the “sky” in heaven? Poop on the shoulders of the humans in heaven?
For that matter, what would a human do in heaven?
Yes, everything lives forever in heaven. Including slugs and fireants and wasps and skunks. And everything is covered in bird poop.
Well, that's one person's opinion.
I prefer to believe the Bible over man.
