Signaling a new aggressiveness, aides to Sen. John McCain (D-Ariz.) said Saturday that he is going up immediately with an ad called "Troops" criticizing Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for canceling plans to visit wounded troops at a U.S. military hospital in Germany.
The 30-second ad is to run during NBC's "Saturday Night Live" in Denver. Colorado is one of this election's most important swing states. On Sunday it will air in the Washington market and in Harrisburg, Pa., another key swing state.
An announcer says: "Barack Obama never held a single Senate hearing on Afghanistan. He hadn't been to Iraq in years. He voted against funding our troops. And now, he made time to go to the gym, but cancelled a visit with wounded troops. Seems the Pentagon wouldn't allow him to bring cameras. John McCain is always there for our troops. McCain. Country first."
Then McCain says: "I'm John McCain and I approve this message."

Shocking that McCain would hit this hard.
This is a winning strategy. Go McCain!
This ad gives me hope.
This is just the sort of hard-hitting campaign ad that I have been waiting 12 years to see come from a Republican.
Amateurs skirmish. Professionals wait until the other side makes a fatal error and then goes in with overwhelming force.
Yes. McCain is good on two things now. The troops, and energy.
It must be said that McCain DID once betray the troops, back when he chaired the POW/MIA committee. But I certainly trust him more on this issue than Commie-Obammi.
Excellent observation.
What delights me about this ad is that all it does is point out Obama's actual behavior and draw logical inferences, which is really all they have to do to defeat Democrats. Use their own words and actions against them. What a concept!
I wonder if viewers will think it’s an SNL parody.
I LIKE IT !
Yes, the AP today carried an article saying the U.S. is winning the war.
You will have to believe me — or you can search on “AP IRAQ WAR”
Yep. And observer the incisive placement of the ad. It's a surgical strike. They're smart enough to know where to run the ad, in critical swing states, not wasting money in states with majorities who despise the military.
Obama got a small bounce from the trip, no doubt about it, but choosing to work out at the luxurious gym in the Berlin Ritz Carleton rather than visit wounded troops in the hospital will not go over well with the very people he needs to win the WH, white blue collar workers and Christians. This ad is a very smart move considering most U S papers have so far refused to mention Obama’s troop snub, although I have to give credit to ABC’s Jake Tapper, he reported it, and he’s been openly critical of the Obama campaign throughout the messiah’s magical mystery tour.
LOL, the story has McCain listed as a Democrat.
Freudian slip?
Good for him. It’s about time.
Now find that big voice John. You know, the one that Reagan used; the one that Churchill used.
Get a pulpit and practice, practice, practice.
Sen. John McCain (D-Ariz.)
Classic!
Frezzes?
