Berkeley has been doing something like this for years. Most of these new garbage cans have a number on them. I knew a gut who worked the city of LA a "garbage can specialist". The city wanted weigh each can as it was lifted into the truck and track how much each person throws away. Then they could charge people more for those that tossed to much stuff.

Ours arrive around 7:30, but they take various routes through the neighborhood, so we never know if they’ll pick up ours early or late.

They were doing that here years ago for commercial dumpsters.

I took a nap, then igged the nausea, and went to run errands. There is one more to do, and that can wait until tomorrow.

It’s a good thing I didn’t wait any longer, or I probably wouldn’t have gone anywhere today.

Picking hananeros with bare hands is a no-no...

They do the trash separation here, too, but it’s been mostly residentail for at least the last 15 years. Homeowners have big black or green garbage cans, then they also have red white and blue crates for plastic/aluminum, paper and glass.
