The upcoming joint appearance by Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain at Rick Warren's evangelical Saddleback Church is co-sponsored by a left-leaning group led by a Unitarian-Universalist minister who once headed her denomination's homosexual advocacy office.
Meg Riley is the board president of Faith in Public Life, whose board members include other theological liberals, including a pro-abortion Muslim leader and a Jewish rabbi, reported OneNewsNow.
The group's stated vision hints at its challenge to the influence of the so-called religious right, saying it "envisions a country in which diverse religious voices for justice and the common good consistently impact public policy; and those who use religion as a tool of division and exclusion do not dominate public discourse."
Warren told OneNewsNow, a Christian Internet site, he's not troubled by the association with a group at odds with his church's conservative evangelical theology.
"Really we just are ... co-hosting [the event]," Warren said, noting Faith in Public Life came up with the idea.
"Actually, we're in total control of the format, the program, the questions," he said. "It's at our church; and so it's not their event, it's our event."

hell of a purpose driven life there.
Wait a little before saying what McCAIN and OUSBAMA will answer...
Doesn’t matter if they are hosted by a “gay” advocate or anyone else!
On social issues McCAIN and OUSBAMA have not precisely the same records!Isn’t it?
Right! Imagine, a candidate throwing off Pastor Hagee’s endorsement, but then appearing to approve of Rick Warren’s socialist-leaning activities.
I guess we know what purpose is being driven at the Brokeback Church.
"Really we just are ... co-hosting [the event]," Warren said,
I guess the "do not be unequally yoked" scripture was censored out of this "I'll compromise to be popular" maroon's Bible.
Warren is an “ear-tickler”. That’s what this generation of vipers wants and that’s what they’re getting. - What suckers!
Include clueless conservative Christians in the long list of suckers who are being duped by hucksters such as Warren and Obama in this evil media-driven age.
Jesus is right, as always. The way to Hell is smooth and broad and paved with cash.
I will keep saying the same thing. Do not under estimate Obama’s skill as a pure politician. It is my belief he is coming directly after the evangelical vote. He will take it as an enormous victory if he is able to gain 25% of that vote. If you listen to his theological language it is very strong and profoundly Christian. I do not think it is an accident that he has picked a fight with James Dobson. Dobson is already in conflict with some of the evangelical governing bodies and it would be Obama’s political dream to wedge the evangelical community on social activism and the environment.
Be careful what you wish for, McCain wanted Obama to go to Iraq. George Will predicted a few months ago that McCain would regret being seen as pushing Obama in that direction. It is my belief that people who want to attack Obama on cultural and religious grounds are walking into a similar trap. This is the area that he has had to deal with most of his political life. The Warren interviews are a set up right from the beginning. They are intended to showcase Obama’s Christian formation. It is his strength not his weakness. It is also possible, although I am simply guessing, that McCain runs the risk of appearing shallow and uninformed on Christian life. In the meantime, nobody is spending the time to take a hard look at the inherent weakness of Obama’s liberal policy formation.
What is this, "The Purpose Pederast-Driven Event"?
Sounds more like a camel's nose in the tent to me.
NO cheers, unfortunately.
I hear you, but 20 years at the "God D*mn America!" church will undo a lot of his efforts.
Cheers!
Christians love a repentant. The “GD America” is a political rather than a religious thorn. Those who oppose Obama hear it already. There is not much depth left in that story among the undecided. Again, my point is very simple, if you attack Obama on cultural and religious grounds you are fighting on the very hill he chooses to do battle. A hill where he has already won his share of fights. On the other hand, he is vulnerable on hard issues of political philosophy. So, why is McCain going to a discussion format moderated by an evangelical who is identified as a social moderate? Is nobody paying attention?
He's playing zone defense -- and all the while treating the Christian conservatives as though they are on the plantation.
Bad move, in my estimation.
Cheers!
Rick Warren has stated before that he has a universalist view (like Obama). In fact, he has already hosted Obama in his church already...and is pretty much in the tank for him.
He teaches another gospel.
And this is just another way to gain more publicity.
“Rick Warren, ‘gay’ advocate team up to host Obama-McCain”
There has always been something about Warren that I just haven’t liked him.....I can’t put my finger on it but it feels like there is something there that isn’t right.
I hear you, and I sort of agree. But, I think that Obama already has something like 25% of the evangelical vote. The fact that Warren could get such a large number of evangelical churches to participate in his movement is evidence of how much the evangelical community has changed since Reagan’s first election (1980). At our church the youngest voters are probably already Obama supporters.
It could be that he’s a fraud, but that’s just me...
“It could be that hes a fraud, but thats just me...”
That could be.
