Obama-love could hurt what it cherishes

John McCain, it seems, has decided to re-run Hillary Clinton’s ultimately failed campaign against Barack Obama. John Heilemann, the New York magazine writer, spotted signs that the rightwing former prisoner of war was modelling himself on the left-of-centre ex-first lady a fortnight ago: both were served by feuding and leaking staffers, both were tempted into populist gambits such as supporting a summer petrol tax holiday and both were betting their record of experience could trump Mr Obama’s promise of change.

But the parallels became overwhelming this week when Mr Obama’s triumphant tour of the Middle East and Europe goaded the McCain team into blaming it all on the favourite culprit of the waning days of Mrs Clinton’s campaign: the media and its alleged love affair with Mr Obama. The Clinton camp’s accusations got a boost from a Saturday Night Live sketch satirising the supposedly solicitous treatment Mr Obama received from television debate moderators; Mr McCain’s operation went one better, creating its own satirical video of Obamaphile pundits, called Obama-love, and posting it on YouTube.

Somehow, I have trouble envisioning Obama blending effortlessy with crowds at a Middle America's Sunday picnic. Or riding a tank.:-)

Mr Obama’s weakest political moments have been when he has seemed remote from or superior to ordinary Americans: his remarks about rural Pennsylvanians being “bitter”, his bad bowling, even his lack of enthusiasm for junk food.

Oh, please. Grow up. Like anyone cares that he can't bowl and doesn't like junk food. What about Rev. Wright? Bill Ayres? Louis Farrahkan? Tony Rezko? His desire to appease our enemies over tea and cookies? His wife's rancorous tirades against her fellow Americans? His intent to raise our taxes more than we can even imagine? These are the types of things that make Americans hesitant, not whether he's a bad bowler.

Mr Obama’s triumphant tour of the Middle East and Europe

Didn't need to read any more after that.

What a puff peace. What, exactly, did he triumph over? Certainly not the polls in this country.

CHOOSING THE NEXT PRESIDENT

Thank you.

I’m personally dreading the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. I recently managed to increase my salary by $7K a year (a combination of a raise and increased hours), and that would be exactly erased if the Bush tax cuts lapsed.

(Especially hard with the increased price of gas/food.)

I live in CA with a large family (4 kids), subject to the AMT and lots of high taxes everywhere I turn. . .I’ve disliked McCain for years but I KNOW he will raise my taxes less than Obama, and (fingers crossed) keep them the same or even lower them. For that reason alone, I’m happy to vote for him.

I’m continually mystified by the middle to upper-middle class liberals all around me who complain about the cost of things but are happy to be taxed more. I just don’t get them. . .

The Drivebys are really lashing out. If John McCain is Hillary, why are they so worried? Hey, if there's smoke, there's fire!

Liberalism is one thing which can give some meaning to their vacuous existence. It is their religion or passionate hobby.:-)

To liberals, youth is as pristine as “Eden.” Given the chance, they will always go for youth. Perpetual worship of adolescence in its mind, body, and world view.

Couldn't read any more drivel once I read that drivel.

Who can forget Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and his “God-Damn America”? Obama openly claimed this bat out of hell has his mentor. “What about Rev. Wright? Bill Ayres? Louis Farrahkan? Tony Rezko? His desire to appease our enemies over tea and cookies? His wife’s rancorous tirades against her fellow Americans? His intent to raise our taxes more than we can even imagine?” I think that anyone voting for this has to be un-American.

decided to re-run Hillary Clinton’s ultimately failed campaign against Barack Obama.

This is a totally different game from the Democrats' primaries. What worked there might not work in the general election. Likewise, what did not work then might work now. The audiences are different.

Obama is the first presidential candidate who has promised to lower America’s standard of living.

Hillary’s tactics worked in he end. The kicked the sh!t out
of Barry in the last 10 primaries. She lost the nomination because she didn’t have a game plan for after super tuesday and Barry was heavily organised in caucus states with moveon.org.

Undecideds broke heavy for Clinton too.
