IN THE first six months of this year an increasing number of South Africans considered or decided to migrate to Australia.
As a result, a wide range of businesses is booming.
While few firms can give exact figures, they are all sure of one thing: demand is high. One says most inquiries it gets are from Afrikaners.
Immigration lawyers, airlines, travel agents, removal companies and pet-relocation companies have benefited.
The Australian high commission in Pretoria said that while no figures were available yet on how many South Africans had settled in Australia so far this year, 3996 relocated there last year, with total visitor numbers reaching 149000.
David Randall, marketing manager of Pentravel, said inquiries and bookings of aircraft flights to Australia were up about 30% on last year.
Demand was so high that the travel group secured a special immigration fare from Qantas airline. It is not only the sales of one-way fares that have increased, but tickets for people making exploratory visits to Australia, said Randall.
Our flights between SA and Australia have been operating at very high load factors this year, says Michaela Messner, African manager for Qantas. The airline operates five flights to both Sydney and Perth each week, with plans to add an additional flight to Sydney in December due to demand for more seats.
Robbie Ragless, regional manager for immigration agency Global Visa SA, said there had been a huge rise in the number of inquiries in the first six months of the year from South Africans wanting to relocate.
Most inquiries are from the Afrikaans community and young families looking for a safe environment to bring up their children, said Ragless.

Way back when the Republic of South Africa was the last confessional Christian nation, I taught myself some Afrikaans as a gesture of solidarity. Then, they decided to trade in Jesus for the opportunity to participate in international sports — and today, abortion and sodomy are both “rights,” while the savages fresh out of the bush are cannibalizing the results of centuries of painful effort.
gee, why not go to England?
They are of dutch blood. BAD feelings left over from Boer Wars with the British.
There was nothing Christian about apartheid.
There were 16,000 australian troops in the boer war
Thank you for saying it. I second that.
“There was nothing Christian about apartheid.”
True. But same can be said for abortion, sodomy, and the communists who took over.
Too bad we can’t let more of them into the US. These are some of the most productive and self-reliant folks in the world. And they still believe in having kids, which is where most of our fellow native-born Americans are shirking their duty.
bunches of them came to TX...

Have met a few that cam eout from Zimbabwe a few years back - very nice fellows untl you got onto the subject of race. I can understand their bitternes towards the Zimbabwe Government but seeing their attitudes towards ‘blacks’ I wondered whether they may have gone some way in fostering the hatred brought down upon them.

They did spend 500 or so years creating one of the only decent places on the continent for someone else to live in, now that was Christian, at least give them that.

Agreed; but there was nothing Christian about the ANC (Communist), necklacing (killing someone by putting a diesel-soaked tire about their neck and setting it alight), property seizures and violent home invasions either.
And it is now a far worse place for everyone than it was under apartheid; it thus follows that while evil, it was not the greatest evil.
They did provide a safe and productive environment in Africa. There are more murders and violence there now - not very Christian.
If it was me, I'd be gettin' the flock off that continent, as well...
My boss is one. I totally agree. He lives in Canada. We don't want educated immigrants coming here!
You meant you would be getting the f**k off the continent.
