McCain gives the same speech to all the Hispanic groups and on the stump trying to pander to get their votes. As he usually does, McCain blurs the line between legal and illegal. You have be here legally to serve in the military.

And McCain likes to create the phony strawman that anyone who is against his amnesty plan is a bigot and nativist. Moreover, he likes to be a martyr on the issue and that he showed great courage in supporting it, e.g., he almost lost the nomination. What is unsaid but implied, is that the GOP is the party of bigots since the Dems support amnesty overwhelmingly. McCain never mentions such concepts as the Rule of Law.

The question was asked why McCain was referencing a Hispanic who fought in Vietnam. The answer had nothing to do with amnesty the answer had to do with the fact that he was talking to a group of Hispanic veterans. I never said anything about citizenship. You people thought you had tasted blood in water when you saw the reference to a Hispanic soldier and you wanted to post Juan Hernandez’s pictures up without realizing to whom McCain spoke.

In this case, McCain using the valorous service of Hispanic Illegal Aliens as a cover to give citizenship to a whole lot of people who DID NOT fight in Iraq and who have committed misdeamenors and felonies while here

No, McCain was trying to blur the line between legal and illegal. You have to be in a LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT status to serve in the military. Illegal aliens cannot serve in the US military.

And you still don't get it!

It doesn't matter which group he was talking to, FFranco, and my posts as well, were referring to a character flaw that McCain shows off way too often, especially concerning the Illegal Alien issue.

Another example is his telling everyone that illegal aliens are God's Children and therefore he is going to pursue Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Well there are God's Children on Death Row as well. What is he going to do for them?

And those same illegal aliens he is doing everything to get Amnesty for have committed many felonies with respect to ID fraud and committed misdemeanors crossing the border.

He has a tendency to take a truth that exists in one context and then falsely use it to apply to another context where is does not apply in order to give a false cover for something he wants to do that is not principled.

That, my friend, is the point we have been trying to make.

Simply, that was crassy.

His attempts to move the GOP to the left (Global Warming, Gang of 14, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Amnesty) IS THE CANCER that needs to be excised from the GOP.

Note that McCain was not addressing just a Hispanic veterans group, but a Mexican-American veterans group, per reports from KRDO ABC Channel 13 Denver.

You said, "I think FFRANCO should have known this was a speech before a group of Hispanic Veterans before sounding off.

Franco stated, "Just catering to the Mexicans and setting the stage for amnesty when he takes office. He’s been saying this a lot, in more speeches than just this one.

"When McCain is in the White House, he’ll say something like this: “Hispanics are good citizens. Many have fought and died for America. How can we deny them all the benefits of citizenship?”

If you read the entire speech [and yes I know it was before an Hispanic vererans group], you will see much of the same exact words that McCain used before NAELO and La Raza. For excample:

Let me close by expressing my gratitude for the contributions Hispanic-Americans have made to the security of the country I have served all my adult life. I represent Arizona where Spanish was spoken before English was, and where the character and prosperity of our state owes much to the Arizonans of Hispanic descent who live there. And I know this country, which I love more than almost anything, would be poorer were we deprived of the patriotism, industry and decency of those millions of Americans whose families came here from Mexico, Central and South America.

When you take the solemn stroll along that wall of black granite on the national Mall, it is hard not to notice the many names such as Rodriguez, Hernandez, and Lopez that so sadly adorn it. When you visit Iraq and Afghanistan you meet some of the thousands of Hispanic-Americans who serve there, and many of those who risk their lives to protect the rest of us do not yet possess the rights and privileges of full citizenship in the country they love so well.

Who is trying to "deprive" this country of Hispanics from Latin America? Today, more than 60% of the 1.2 million LEGAL immigrants who enter annually come from Latin America. The Hispanic population of this country is about 40 million.

Those Hispanics who are in the military must be here legally. As stated previously, there is a program to expedite citizenship if you serve in the military. McCain makes it sound like these LPRs are being discriminated against. That is clearly not the case.

The so called "Dream Act," has as one of its provisions the ability for illegals to join the military as a way to gain citizenship. The Dream Act was also part of McCain-Kennedy.

McCain is using the heroic performance of Roy Benavidez, a native born Mexican-American, as a way to pander to Hispanic audiences blurring the lines between legal and illegal. Roy Benavidez was the son of a Texas sharecropper, a seventh grade dropout who suffered the humiliation of being constantly taunted as a "dumb Mexican." Taunted by whom? Redneck Republicans?

May one of your loved ones not get a cancer.

My aunt, whom I love very dearly and am caring for, has stage-4 Multiple Myeloma.

Your attempt to shut down discussion about an important issue by abusing the cancer issue is contemptable!

But it is par for the course for McCain and the McCainiacs!

Contemptable? I said I hope none of your loves ones get cancer.

Do you have difficulty reading or were you born this ignorant?

Sorry about your aunt.

How dishonest of you.

You, I, and any other rational observer of your comment would come to the same conclusion that I did, that your comment was not meant in a gracious manner.

No, you just can't read properly or you're delusional.

Either reason is pathetic.

I loved the story about the Hispanic guy but maybe also telling it for Spanish vote? Sounded like a one in a million soldier tho-He at least is a true American-really loves his country. When I saw Obama getting off plane somewhere along the line chewing on his gum with his shades on I thought how unpresidential he looked and acted. Like he is some kind of stud...all three pounds of him!!

I said this:

(McCain is) Juat catering to the Mexicans and setting the stage for amnesty when he takes office. He’s been saying this a lot, in more speeches than just this one.

When McCain is in the White House, he’ll say something like this: “Hispanics are good citizens. Many have fought and died for America. How can we deny them all the benefits of citizenship?”

It is clear my comment was about ILLEGAL aliens, that’s why they need AMNESTY.

It wasn’t about Legal Aliens serving in the US military. Any legal alien serving in the US military who qualifies should be allowed to become a US citizen, as should Legal Aliens not serving in the US military who qualify.

I know McCain has made similar statements about Hispanic military/veterans and will try to find those. He has made those statements in the context of illegal aliens are all G-d’s children (which very few would deny).

But whether they are G-d’s children, or whether there are brave Hispanic soldiers in the US military, is irrelevant to the issue of illegal immigration. Just as the issue of Legal Immigration is irrelevant. Most of those who oppose illegal immigration do Not oppose legal immigration. They are separate issues. But McCain and others try to confuse the issues of Hispanics in the military, we are all G-d’s children, and legal immigration with illegal immigration to try to make the case for amnesty.

*When I saw Obama getting off plane somewhere along the line chewing on his gum with his shades on I thought how unpresidential he looked and acted.*

That puts it mildly.
I have seen many Presidents in person from JFK to W and
Obama looks like the neighborhood smart ass.
